(OP) User ID: 1235375 United States 08/28/2011 02:57 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Earlier I read: Constellation Energy says its Calvert Cliffs nuclear power plant is operating at 100 percent. The company says nuclear reactors are designed to withstand extreme weather conditions, and it expects both reactors to remain online through the storm. Able to withstand extreme weather conditions, huh...winds are 33mph here..wtf Read more: [link to www.abc2news.com] |

Quoting: simplestoner they both looked stunned while gazing into their laptops! Nuclear Power Plant that can't withstand a wind gust..unreal especially when they've all done rather well in hurricanes in the past.. suddenly, nuke plants all over are having "unusual events" left and right |

There is some woman on MSNBC standing there, no rain, very little breeze, standing there with a little anemometer in her hand spinning around....silly shit. Any other hurricane you have reporters getting half blown over, driving wind and rain. Not this one. Something weird about this whole operation. |

(OP) User ID: 1235375 United States 08/28/2011 04:32 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Well someone didn't do their job here...U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission..The NRC’s regional offices have already made sure that appropriate equipment, including satellite phones, are available and operational. Before hurricane season even begins, the staff ensures that hurricane response training, computer programs and emergency contact information are all up to date. NRC inspectors also confirm that nuclear power plants in hurricane-prone areas have completed their extensive hurricane preparations. All the reactors are operating at full power, but the plants' procedures require that they shut down prior to any predicted hurricane force winds on site. The plants' emergency diesel generators are available if off-site power is lost during the storm. All plants have flood protection above the predicted storm surge, and key components and systems also are housed in watertight buildings capable of withstanding hurricane force winds and flooding. The agency is continuously tracking Hurricane Irene using the resources of all federal agencies and several weather forecasting services. (CEG)’s Unit 1 at its Calvert Cliffs plant in Maryland shut down automatically when a piece of aluminum siding, ripped from a nearby building by Irene’s winds, crashed into a transformer, causing an explosion. The unit “remains in safe shutdown,” Constellation said in a statement. “We will not bring the unit back online until all required precautionary testing has been completed,” the company said. Anonymous Coward User ID: 1144738 United States 08/30/2011 11:10 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Security Faulted at Calvert Cliffs Plant article dated 8/17/2011 HOLLYWOOD, Md. -- Federal regulators found gaps in the security measures at Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant after a six-month inspection at the twin reactor site in Lusby, though the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) will not release the specific details of the issues. Neil Sheehan, spokesman for the NRC, said that a letter from a nuclear reactor safety regulator to Constellation Energy Nuclear Group, which owns and operates the site, informs the public of the issue in basic terms only. “Because this involves security there’s not much detail,” Sheehan said of the public announcement. “That goes back to 9/11.” [link to somd.com] |
