Pro Forecaster: Irene HYPED, OVERBLOWN

Do me favor....check out what the tropical storm wind strengths of Ike did to Louisville KY..yeah that far inland...then get back to me on what some nobody danger-shrill has to say.

Ignore it folks...if you want...enjoy begging for water for a couple days.

Spreading fear again, they are laughing as we hustle to move inland and BUY BUY BUY.

Had to go to 4 different gas stations before I found one that worked and I couldn't even fill it up all the way.

Went to 4 stores, bread and water were cleaned out.

Want to kickstart the economy? Spread some fear.

BTW anyone know what was said at Jacksonhole???? Or did we all forget?

Looked into Ike yesterday, thank you. Ike was a Cat 4 and a Cat 3 when it did the most damage. As a Cat 2 it did didly squat.

"Nobody danger shrill" is a professional forecaster who cited the official readings (which, if you read the article, you should have seen). I will take that over the hysteria of anonymous GLP doomtards anytime.

Nobody stated -- or implied -- that there wouldn't be any damage at all, just that there won't be some cat 3 or 4 as predicted. With the eyewall COLLAPSING and the PRESSURE RISING, that makes sense.

Right but with 60 million peeps in the affected zone it's one hell of an economy stimulus.Sheep are easy to control.

Yeah I knew this was BS. The media only hypes this much when it's nothing. When it's the real thing they get scared and pretend it's not happening. They knew they could hype the hell out of this and then when nothing happened everyone would be to relieved to get pissed.

They sure as hell didn't hype this much about Katrina. Oh, I guess it's fly over country.

No, actually Ike was a Cat 2 when he made landfall in Texas :P Hurricanes don't have to be cat 3/4/5 to do major damage. there are other factors, like the size of the storm...and the fact that the east coast isn't as prepared for a hurricane as other parts of the us. Irene is still a dangerous storm.

I repeat (for the THIRD time): Nobody said it wasn't a "dangerous" storm. OF COURSE there will be accompanying heavy rain, high wind, etc.

Irene is now classified as a Cat 1, which is a far cry from the "cat 3 or 4 hitting NY" predictions made earlier this week. It was HYPED and OVERBLOWN, that is the POINT.

Part of the media hype was a comparison to the hurricane of 1938 (pre the naming system) that hit NY in Sept. of that year. It was a cat 4 when it made landful, *BUT* it had a very atypical course, from western South Africa on a straight NWerly trajectory to the northeastern U.S.; in other words, it completely bypassed the coast of Florida, the Carolinas, and Virginia. Some of us seasoned hurricane watchers (I grew up in Louisiana) KNEW that there was no way that a 'caine would still be that powerful once it made it that far north if it had traveled the usual course along the FL-Carolinas-VA coast. So, given the course of Irene, we knew that the "cat 4 hitting NY" scenario was BS and called it correctly.

State of Emergency declared.
Mandatory evacuations.

Either they needed a reason to declare an emergency, or they're going to make the storm do serious damage.
