Law Enforcement is our friend
Wel..... every now-and-then.

A lot of threads on here bash law enforcement (often times well-earned) and yet I was a bit surprised to see people throwing virtual high-5's when on got killed over a dog.

That said, I want to point out that with the exception of large Sheriff's Office (the kind that typically have a metro division), you will find that sheriff's offices will be on the side of the people. I can't say the same thing for anything but the smallest municipal agency.

I do not know why this is. I can say I worked for a sheriff when Obama was elected. I told him he needed to knwo that if Obamam tried to do anything unconstitutional, I would refuse. He reply? "Good, because if you did (it), I'd fire your ass."

Here's a story of a sheriff in Texas not taking any crap from his deputies that forgot they were public servants.

You are correct, dear. Sometimes, the police have a "mob" mentality-I myself have seen it and it disgusts me. However, the Sheriff's of the United States are our best protection and we should be grateful for the job they and the honest, hard-working non-mobster Police Officers are doing everyday.

I wish local municipalities would clean up their forces, though, and remove the perverts and the power abusers. It's a tough job, esp in big cities. I do think that the "thug" mentality of some departments should be addressed by The People. They work for US, and we shouldn't tolerate abuses.

I have seen some abuses. I went to jail one night because my husband and I had a fight. It wasn't terribly violent, but my husband was playing a power game with me and called the police. Since I had stepped on his foot first, they were taking one of us-I volunteered. I had never been in jail before and when I went in, the duty officers behind the desk were talking filthy dirty talk and joking about someone they had released who claimed he had money in his wallet prior to getting arrested and the money was now gone. I am sure they took it-this is a major metropolitan KS Police Department. There is no excuse for this behavior.

I also dated many years ago a corrections officer from this same police department and he ran background checks on me at his job before we went on our date. I viewed this as a direct violation of my rights-he couldn't believe that I didn't have a criminal record or traffic tickets. This same guy was somewhat suicidal, said that he could have sex with any of the inmates, if he wanted anytime and was extremely abusive with me in the 2 weeks that we dated.

I think people should be aware and shouldn't tolerate the abuses of the local Police Departments. I wish I could say that they were all doing a great job, but we all know better.

And most get off scott free when they do something wrong.

So until that changes, I am always careful around any officer of the law.

Recently it seems like a few are ok and the majority are pricks.

The biggest problem is personal responsibility. If the average citizen behaved in a civilized and responsible manner, the cops wouldn't have anything to do but eat donuts...it's people that are the biggest problem.

Well, there are psycopaths on both sides of the equation. Yes, the thugs in street gangs and the criminals are psycopaths, but do not bullshit yourself that there aren't plenty of psycopaths in the Police Force-because we KNOW that there are!

Don't oversimplify things to the point that you are blind on one side.

Last I checked, the police are people too...what makes you think I exempted them from the equation?

Another day at the zoo. Cops are about as real people as a computer program.

Really?

Cops tazer a 7 year old?

Let me guess "leave with pay".

Why would you even feel it necessary to tazer a 7 year old?

Law enforcement is NOT our friend.
