It would be better still if the computer decided whose karma rose and fell by trigger words. Like swears and such. Peoples thumb up or down votes would still push it into the red or into the green.
When the red is maxxed out no more posting on the normal page. You would be ostracized on the RED page and people could mock you there for a month and maybe a trial by your peers.

Re: Bad Karma Good Karma... Being used in place of thread rating?
People have a limited amount of Karma to give, and if they waste it on threads instead of behavior.. well they just wasted their Karma!

Like any new system, it'll take a while for people to understand and get used to it, I think this may regulate itself over time.

As for a language parsing auto-karma.. that's no longer about behavior, as "bad language" is a subjective thing which doesn't relate to the words used but the intentions behind the words, and no automated system will be able to decipher that without a lot more computer power, resources and time than I suspect even Trinity is willing to give. After all that sort of thing is what hard core computer science researchers and big industrial deals come up with.

What about if for every 2 bad karmas you give out, you get one in return?

That would put a stop to a lot of the frivolous bad karmas being given out.

I don't like this karma thing as it is akin to censorship and societal pressure. Have we not have enough control? Go back to the way it was.

Re: Bad Karma Good Karma... Being used in place of thread rating?
I have noticed several posters with bad Karma points... posters that I am familiar with their posting style and wondered why on Earth anyone would bad Karma them.

IMO, this is a potential problem with the Karma system... people using the Karma feature in place of the thread rating system. Using this as a way to voice disagreement or disapproval of a single thread or post seems to defeat the idea somehow.

Have I misunderstood how the Karma points are designed to be used...

NO its NOT a worthy idea, it controls then peoples ability to express themselves using often the only real works that express an idea and emotion, the slang. there is always slang in language when people cannot find real concepts to express themselves. Any sort of judgement system of this sort will be used by shills and those not knowing the laws of God to attempt to drive certain people away, and this is the intent of some here. And I don't like the rewards for getting threads pinned either, because this will be used to send bad karma to people who ones are worried might earn pinned threads. And these same ones will post bad karma to keep people from earning enough good karma to get a green pin. But it will be an interesting social experiment to ones here like me who watch people. I have always watched people.

I agree with you. This Karma rating it is subject to abuse. You don't like someone and you can get all your friends and relatives to just stop in as AC and give someone/someones the thumb down.

Have been surprised at how eager some people are to buy approval. Thought GPP users were more aware. Scary put in the context of what most of us think is about to happen in the world.

Guess Homeland Security and the current regimes are pleased with how easy people are bought and turned.

I bet the site mod didnt think about the fact people would get upset when this new karma points system was implemented.

When i pointed out what i thought was problems with it. the only response i got was:

'i find it amusing'

lol

imo its a really weird thing to implement into a forum, perhaps its just a way to entice non paying members into joining? essentially a money making scheme?

who knows! but the fact remains, it is upsetting some members

apparently somebody doesn't like your ron Paul dislike? ( I don't know if you dislike him or not, the posts suggest you dislike him) What to do, ignore them. Trinity is I hope on a trip watching this stuff. I personally think it is going to give certain members the right to tread on all others. Grow a tough skin, it s one of the lessons on earth. Why though do you post "Christian ladies". has nothing to do with it. Christian does not make you special. maybe it should say, that is how trolls respond to Ron Paul supporters? I see nothing in your karma that suggests its because you are a Christian lady. This language is common against all

Re: Bad Karma Good Karma... Being used in place of thread rating?
as i already said, the karma system is one big FAIL

and it baffles me that the site mod implemented it???

the only motives i can see are $$'s or entertainment (enjoying other people getting upset, little sociopathic dont you think?)

as a 32yr old relatively well adjusted male, the comments i receive dont really bother me.

but i assume other more fragile glp people might get upset at the comments left on their karma facebook wall.

perhaps a karma karma button is needed, i.e 'report abusive karma message'

lol

or just can the whole stinking thing.

I just realized something.

It is my opinion that Trinity, possibly, does not care too much about the negative karma's going around or how they are being abused.

Why?

Because the karma system was implemented for one main reason... to get GLP members to police each other better, to help GLP stay clean, legal and online!

Good Karma has been set up to help:
1) Cut down on copyright violations, which can be very bad for GLP.
2) Cut down on death threats, web hacking threats and threats of illegal activity.
3) Encourage unique topics to be posted and hopefully be important enough to be pinned.

From what we know so-far, Bad Karma really has no purpose and is ripe for abuse from members.

Gotta thank you, not for me so much (I missed it after all lol), but for those getting a chance to see that some are aware that red Karma isn't necessarily an accurate depiction of a poster's personality or the quality of their posts.
Sometimes it just shows that the Karma giver had a bug up their butt about something.

I was just saying that a more automated/ computerized approach might lend a little towards an unbiased approach, or you get the purposeful red thumb syndrome. That is if there is a problem with people sabotaging your karma. Catching key words like swears was a example, one of many ideas. Swearing is the top way for someone to reveal themselves as a troll or satanic convert. Smart people hold their tounge and find words of more precise meaning.
As the cat put it " I swear because I can't find another way to express my deeper emotions."............ Hmmm mm.........
An intelligent attack is always welcome......

Well I for one thanks you both for the thread and for the pin...

I saw this thread up this morning and finally finished reading the whole thing...

Had it not been pinned I probably would have missed it...

I think the Karma thing is a good idea and I also believe that the actions of others will all be judged in the end...

Good Karma Bad Karma...it is all gauged by what an individual feels/believes in their heart...

And I just have to say that the quote from Mother Teressa posted by Brief about sums up the elevation of life on this beautiful planet...

So go ahead make it happen...

Thanks
