Chicago resident Lair Scott, who posted the petition on Change.org, is seeking matrimony for the "Sesame Street" chums as a way to make gay and lesbian kids who watch the show feel better about themselves, and to promote tolerance for people who are different. The marriage could legitimately happen, he reasons, since Sesame Street is located in New York, where gay marriage became legal in June. Others agreed. Politics shouldn't be involved in children's programing, not for the littlest ones. I'm pro-gay marriage. (So this isn't about homophobia.) Sesame street isn't the place for it. What's the average age of children who watch Sesame Street? Preschool to 2nd grade, maybe? I personally don't know any gay/lesbian kids between the ages of 4-8. The rationale is that it will make these kids "feel better about themselves". Who makes these kids feel bad about themselves? Paranoid parents? Little ones don't know to be hateful because of sexual orientation. They don't even know what the words mean, ffs!
