(OP) User ID: 1460097 United States 08/05/2011 12:39 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I bought a bk2 a couple months ago. The sheath and handle seem adequate to me. Don't see the need to change them. At least not yet. Nice knife, and a steal at 60 bucks for a knife made in the USA that will probably never need replacing. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1430199Personal opinion. The hollow "grivory" scales seemed cheap to me, although they do have the added advantage of putting a mini-survival stash inside (just be sure to duct tape an Allen wrench to the sheath).. The Micarta handle just seem more durable to me. The belt loop on the sheath had way too much play even for my rigging belt. I solved that with duct tape. Also, I prefer leather sheaths with pockets for other supplies. The Hedgehog Leatherworks sheath is fantastic, but I cant see spending $250 on a sheath for a $60 knife. ETA: make sure to put some loctite on the hardware. After heavy use, they tend to loosen up a bit. Almost full flat grind, so beware of knotty oak chipping blade. Made in Taiwan (wtf?), but performs like a workhorse so far. Not a fan of molded rubber handle. No pommel, so no hammering. Sheath is kind of crappy and awkward. Not bad overall, but not sure I trust it long term. Quoting: General Troll, US ShillitaryAgreed... Great work knife... Beat it up and it still performs. Good chopper as you say... Add a few cans of WD-40 to the stash... Helps lubricate the knife when you get tired... You may already know such things. peace, |

No fancy bullshit. Something like these? [link to www.opiknife.com] I think a good folding knife has it's place, but more moving parts increase the chance of mechanical failure long term. IMHO, if you can't buy or make a knife once the SHTF, you need something more sturdy and dependable. One other not to add about a good knife, it should also be fairly comfortable to use without the scales/handle. The BK2 I mentioned is ergonomic, while some other knives may be extremely uncomfortable should you break the handles. "What you have just said, is the most insanely idiotic thing I have ever heard.
