Found Some Shrooms today..Can Anyone Help Identify?? (pics)

Yes..thats where we found these! My family has had cattle for a hundred years in these pastures..

Tell the Jackalope not to eat them.

There are edible mushrooms, in Missouri(probably most places) I've even seen morels, and THOSE are pretty easy to identify.

I think it's great if somebody wants to hunt for and eat wild mushrooms, had a friend in Oregon who made a nice side-income hunting them and sending them to restaurants in Manhattan.

But I never had a chance to go out and hunt them with him, so he could teach me identification. I think that's really something that should be learned first hand in the wild, with an expert 'shroom gatherer.

Websites can help, but you never know if the person advising you is a troll or not. Lots of mean spirited people out there.

On a side note, when I lived in West Seattle, I had a coworker who use to hunt magic mushrooms, and he lived on Alki. Came into work sleepy one morning, and I asked him what was up:

"It rained last night, so I got up early and went to the park. No shrooms, but there were footprints everywhere! My neighbors got to them before me!"

You have a website listed on your page here at GLP. Not stalking. I was wondering if you were alright. So, I looked to see if you had been around and saw the website address.

They're probably either 'Macrolepiota Procera' or 'Coprinus Comatus' (what's in a name..)

Can you tell what their dimensions were?
In case of the first kind; if they're big (height and width up to 30 cm) you can eat them; they're delicious If none of them are big, do not eat them at all.
In case of the second kind you can only eat the young ones with a still closed cap. Easily confused with other, non-edible members of the same family.

But hey, I'm saying this based on two pics. DO NOT take my word for it!

Mushroom identification is tricky and you should not eat a mushroom you aren't familiar with. The way the mushroom attaches to the mycelium at the base, whether the gills connect to the skin, if it has pores instead, the spore color, whether the stalk is fibrous, staining and whether or not a viscid pellicle is present are some of the factors to consider. Also, the aforementioned spore print is important. The proper way to do this is to use two sheets of paper, one black, one white with the cap centered over them because some spore prints are pink, white, or yellow. Psilocybin/psilocin containing varieties have purple-black spores and often exhibit blue or purple staining when bruised.
If you aren't certain, and they turn out to be hallucinogenic then the anxiety you will experience might not be pleasant as you wonder if you get high or die a painful death. If they aren't you might just get the painful death, so it is best to avoid unless you know someone with mushroom hunting experience and knowledge. My grandma used to collect wild mushrooms, never hallucinogenic though, and my grandpa would never touch them. He said, "if you are still alive in an hour I'll try them. Of course that was an idle threat because the dinner was long since cleaned up by then.

SOmetimes you will find gallerina autumnalis near psilocybes and they are nearly impossible to identify for certain. That is not a mistake you want to make.
I have seen two varieties in the wild when I was taking botany. One was a cubensis and it is pretty distinctive looking, up to the size of a small dinner plate with a creamy flesh and faint purplish hue. The other was more of a parasol shape, white to light grayish and densely populating a field as far as the eye could see. That one was harder to ID and very short lived. I can't comment on the effects, but I did witness a guy freaking out after eating a couple of pounds of slightly deteriorated, fresh cubensis mushrooms. He didn't look like he was having fun as he was talking to 911 about being poisoned on a phone which was unplugged.

The first picture..they were probably 4 inch long stems with 1 to 1 1/2 diameter caps..

Ty..yes..I found that site as well..been looking through hundreds of sites tonite..I also think I will take mushroom hunting up..as its alot of fun and can add to your diet..as long as you study on how to identify..I think this will become a new hobby..lol

They are Lepiota Castanea. Do not consume as they contain Amatoxins which cause death in 3-6 days by destroying the liver and causing renal failure (kidneys stop working).

Otherwise, hope that pizza is worth it...

Mushroom poisoning is a very painful, gastly way to die.And it doesnt matter if you are old or young, sick or well.I remember hearing about a family that went out picking mushrooms, had them for dinner, by three in the morning they were all raced of to hospital, very very sick.As far as I know they survived, but only just.........

My grandad was from scotland and wouldnt ever eat mushrooms,because nearly all mushrooms in scotland are very poisonous.We used to give him "champignons" but we said they werent mushrooms.

You are looking to poison the hell out of yourself.

that flecking of membrane on the tops, the flaky stuff, that's not good, you don't want to eat those. only psilocin caps that have the flecking are amanitas

Silly mushrooms will bruise from you touching them. The bruise will be blue.

Silly mushrooms have black or super-dark purple spores.

Some other mushrooms will melt your liver over a period of a few days and you will die a very painful death.

Don't eat mushrooms without doing some serious research.
