The recent CDC Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report indicates that eight cities in the northwest U.S. – Boise, Idaho; Seattle, Wash.; Portland, Ore.; plus the northern California cities of Santa Cruz, Sacramento, San Francisco, San Jose and Berkeley – reported the following data on deaths among those younger than one year of age:

4 weeks ending March 19, 2011: 37 deaths (average 9.25 per week)
10 weeks ending May 28, 2011: 125 deaths (average 12.50 per week)

This amounts to an increase of 35 percent – the total for the entire U.S. rose about 2.3 percent – and is statistically significant. Of further significance is that those dates include the four weeks before and the 10 weeks after the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant disaster. In 2001 U.S. infant mortality was 6.834 per 1,000 live births, increasing to 6.845 in 2007. All years from 2002 to 2007 were higher than the 2001 rate.

We have learned that there was a delay and false statements in releasing data about the amount of radiation coming from the Fukushima reactors. We know that huge amounts of radioactivity continue to pour into the Pacific Ocean, that winds and ocean currents flow from west to east, and that multiple news sources report radioactive cesium and iodine in milk, fruit and vegetables in the U.S. Adding to the problem of knowing the level of radioactive releases is that often amounts have been calculated, rather than actually measured.

and OH, so much more! excellent article.

Good find! I usually enjoy your threads. Thanks, this is very interesting. There are so many things dying recently. Babies passing is very sad. I cannot imagine trying to get pregnant these days. I already have sorrow for my own children because there are so many things I enjoyed as a child that they will not get to experience.

We are getting our elementary school kids off of milk.

Costco has a nice price on one and two-year aged Kerrygold Irish cheddar. We still buy those cheeses...since they are European, no bovine growth hormone, and since they were made at least a year ago, they are pre-Fuku. Eventually that trick won't work, and they'll have to be vegan. Vegan is healthier anyway.

Problem is, the crap is in the veggies too, but I think it is safer than dairy. Dammit all.

I'd love to see data on deformities, abnormalities, and mutations in these deaths.

Think that data will ever see the light of day?

making self agrandizing pats on back for such a serious topic?

How shamelessly insensitive.

i too have had a HUGE amount of grief over this. the fact that we can't trust the water or food, that swimming and the sun are now potentially life-threatening...i've had some pretty heavy talks with my son about it, the poor kid just wants to be a kid, but he needs to know.

and i certainly didn't mean to come off as insensitive, i have cared deeply about these issues all of my life, and followed caldicott for most of same. i'm sorry the other poster took it that way, my 'drum roll' comment was because i have HUGE esteem for caldicott and pretty much figure what she supports is NEWS.

i'm also sorry the negative comments from same poster are detracting from the topic.

Why are you hating on her, it is a good find, years ago my twins were born with anomalies and we never found out why, the more information people have to work with the better.

there is an amazing amount of radioactive and other toxins all over the planet. the lack of disclosure or safety awareness is stunning. i try to stay as grounded and proactive as i can, but innocents in the line of fire, children, animals, environment, will get me sobbing every time. i'm assuming your a mom...(not a dad?)...i can only imagine how strong you must be. love to you and yours. :)
