Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1420765The problem of internet era is flood of information; if you’re not seeking for the truth as it is but for information that support your paradigm, you shall always find them. The way to tackle with this mess is Critical Thinking - rely on reason rather than emotion; - require evidences, and follow them where they lead; - seek for the truth as it is, without trying to prove you’re right; - analyze apparent contradictions and ask questions; We’re entitled to our own believes, but not to our own realities. * ^This^ |

When I was little I thought my Dad knew everything. As a rebellious teen, I thought my Dad knew nothing. As a young adult, I began to give him a little more credit, and as a Father now myself, I realize that my Dad was brilliant and that I truly knew nothing in my arrogant youth. Now, I try to live up to what my father was to me for my children, and part of that is teaching them that it is okay to say "I don't know", because to them I may appear to know everything, at some point I will have succeeded when they mature and realize that I know nothing. Or something like that "What you have just said, is the most insanely idiotic thing I have ever heard. At no point, in your rambling incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points and may God have mercy on your soul." |

Our societies are based on fear, hate and condemnation. We are determined to be like God and know the difference between good and evil. We war warned. But we thought it was just a test. It's not a test. It's real. When you figure out exactly what's wrong you will get your prize. Yes. Everything is backwards. But we can change that overnight. If we want to. |

If we want to. Well, I'll say that we can change what's wrong the same way we can defeat gravity: We have to rigorously analyse and apply the unforgiving laws of physics and nature. We can't just all agree that gravity should be 0.5g at sea level, and expect to jump twice as high after we reach consensus. Certian forces must be overcome, conquered, and made to exist in the margins of error. There are hard, terrible things in the way of humanity, and they only yield to harsher, more terrible things. ac User ID: 1261792 United States 06/11/2011 01:22 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | When knowledge and belief are in conflict, the ability to think and learn shuts down - this is one way to avoid pain when reality is frightening. Facing reality, however, is the only way to deal with pain and put it behind. It's very true that the more you know the more you realize the vastness of your ignorance. Knowledge can be used to stay stupid, as in using one small bit to deny a larger reality, or to support a belief that is personally comfy but dead wrong in the larger picture. No number of facts can make up for a lack of gratitude and respect for ourselves and our reality. |

In one of them, she told me, "It's not how you think it is." I didn't know what she meant, as "it" could've been anything or everything. But I decided it probably wasn't really her.
