Apple Mac security alert, Macs "easier to infect than Windows"
Mac users should make sure they don't install a program called "Mac Defender". Unless they really like porn pop-ups and being forced to pay to remove them.

One of the key benefits of owning a Mac has always been the relative immunity from viruses but that benefit is now in doubt following a reported jump in Mac malware infections.

Apple discussion forums have seen a marked rise in posts about malware threats while an AppleCare support representative has reported an explosion in malware-related support calls. One security expert has gone as far as saying that Apple devices were now easier to infect that Windows machines.

Here is how to get rid of Mac Defender if you accidentally installed it.

"A new malware infection has apparently been spreading relatively rapidly among Mac users, and it's unclear both how pervasive the infection is and whether Apple is addressing the problem. What is known, however, is how to get rid of it."

The key with this problem for macs is "if you install it". Still far less likely for macs to be infected than windows.

LOL Right? Soon Apple will be the king of viruses, since they are the most popular platform now. That's what hackers go after, not the philosophy, but where the greater numbers are.

I personally wouldn't go as far as calling all of the apple users arrogant pricks. I would however say they have gotten very complacent in the fact that apples are overly advertised about their inability to catch virus and have a more stable OS.

When in reality, it's just that hackers rarely waste their time on MAC systems. since there's a larger linux/PC market out there. I am glad to finally see that hackers are turning their attention to the more complacent Computer market, its about time apple users became aware that their computers are just as easy(if not easier)to hack and are just as susceptible to viral/Malware as the rest of the computer world.

Mac sucks, it's nothing but a bullshit hardware forced version of Linux/Unix... but unlike regular linux you can't upgrade your os without buying new hardware.
Ditch the mac, and get a real PC.

Re: Apple Mac security alert, Macs "easier to infect than Windows"
i've been playing with some linux stuff

it seems like it's all a hack

so if i were a bit smarter and devious i'd script up the linux site
everything just says apt or sudo instead of exe or system download
sneak it into a repository pile of files maybe or
use that old school dos window for mac called terminal

the real security is that hackers are not that smart and similarly the linux guys are very single minded

a release works if you have the same unit as the developer otherwise you're tweaking and fucking with it for days before it's halfway right

i have a normal pc-- 2 dual core chips 4g ram nvidia card
downloaded latest ubuntu got no flash
go to forum do a bunch of shit in a dos window called terminal
still no flash
try a different 'distro'(jerkoffs love new acronyms)
similar story only this time flash doesn't like my video card

lather rinse repeat

i can tell by the 'names' which are editions of the same thing
that it's a bunch of smartass dick pullers

Why the fuck would I do that?? Macs are design not to accept pop-ups and virus's. You my friend are an idiot. I have had a Mac Book Pro and have never had a problem with that.

PC are so wack... they start getting slower the minute you hook up to the internet, and you need virus and pop up software to constantly update to keep you safe.

90% of the world own a PC. You are much safer with a Mac you Tool!bsflagbsflagbsflag

Apple envy is the funniest shit ever.

I have been a Windows and Linux guy for decades. Just this last year I bought a MAC to develop iPhone apps just to mess a round and learn something new and I have to say that it's a nice OS and easy to use. I have never once had any issue with viruses in the 8 months I have been using it, whereas my Windows machines would get infected once a month.

There is only one proof needed that macs are better than windows - My two kids have had macbooks for over 4 years and have NEVER had Malware, NEVER had a Virus and NEVER messed up the OS.

Their macbooks still run like the day i brought them, plus the ADDED BONUS i can still get £400.00 minimum for each on the second hand market.

Re: Apple Mac security alert, Macs "easier to infect than Windows"
Silly people. The user is the weakest link. I have a Windows machine we keep around for various cr*p, and in 10 years it's never had a virus.

Now, for the REAL computers here, we use FreeBSD. Makes OSX look like a kid's playtoy. Shiny GUI's and fun little animations are nice, but some of us actually like the processing power to be used for programs. Hell, running e17 with a few hacks, my GUI is even nicer than OSX and a tiny fraction of the bloat to run aqua.

And to the yahoo who said they will stick with the Mac because they make art and music...LOLOLOL.

I do all of that and far more on FBSD, Linux, or even (sigh) Windows, and I don't pay Apple's ridiculous prices so I can be in the "cool kids club". Let's be honest, for the fanboys, it's all about that little apple sticker in the back of your prius. Aside from the singular case of DVD Studio Pro, anything that can be done on a Mac can be done as well if not better elsewhere. And yes, I have a couple Macs....for the same reason I keep a Windblows machine around. I even have a couple of Linux boxes (arch and puppy). So this is from someone who can make the assessment!

Yep this is what it's all about.

I am using a PowerbookG4 from 2004 and the shit still runs like the day I got it.

I have upgraded OS twice and can still use almost all of the newest programs.

The PowerPC thing is the only bummer.

I would have went through 4 Dells by this time.

Re: Apple Mac security alert, Macs "easier to infect than Windows"
jesus h christ on a pogo stick

its amazing to me how passionate people are about their computer developer / software.

I own 3 PC Windows based laptops: A netbook which I lent to a friend, a crappy as work issued PC and a nice asus gaming laptop with dual dedicated nvidia video graphics cards and beefed up ram....granted its now almost 2 yrs old and it no longer state of the art.

And 4 windows based desktops. I built all of them myself. I bought the mobos/ chipset/ case/ ram/ hard dive/ video cards (running duel nvidia cards an each machine and power supplies.

I also have a Macbook Pro (17). It was my most recent purchase and I have had it about a yr (give or take). And I have to say, I LOVE my Macbook.

I use it more often than any other machine. I like having the option of both operating systems and unfortunately I have yet to make the linux plunge but intend to do so on my next build which is long over due.

I have had no crashes or viruses on my Mac UNTIL this month. 6 malwares, and 1 trojan.

My windows systems over the years have been infected so often due to the sheer number of attacks produced and the fact that I ride bare back, that I have not stored anything on my main drives in many many years.

Reformats on my PC is so common place that I simply wipe the drive at the first sign of problems and reinstall.

I ran my Mac Sophos anti-virus this morning and it appears all threats have been isolated, quarantined and deleted. Time shall tell.

And for what its worth Bill Gates totally ripped of Mac when they developed Windows 98 and it only became more an more obvious as they released new updated (WInME, XP...yadda yadda).

If I recall correctly they were even taken to court for it.

I have many dimensions and I like each rig for its strengths.

Gaming...PC hands down.

Photo and video work ...Mac hands down.

So far windows cant touch Macs color profiles, and that is just the tip of the iceberg.

I'm serious about my rigs. I have two 32 inch duel monitors for my windows desktop. And up until about 18 months ago
i used to upgrade my rigs every 6 months.

So let's just ease up on the cock fighting...esp since I dont have a cock and can not participate....and agree that each system has its strengths and weaknesses

*steps down from soap box
