A-la the Suns electromagnetic 'ribbons', through which energy flows, perhaps the 'space ribbon' is apparent because there is already an energy flow within it?

Adding planets, especially those with their own moons, to the cosmic mix may be all the 'spark' required to set off some spectacular energy discharges between the heavenly bodies?

Proponents of the 'electric universe' theory would get a lot more kudos if things really start to crackle and pop on a planetary scale!

Edit to add I would imagine due to the ribbons nebulousness that any electrical energy flowing would most likely be 'electro-static', not 'electro-magnetic' in nature.
