The mark or electronic tattoo as Bill Gates is rumored to have remarked is what spares you from the micro drones which will seek out those who do not have the chip and torment them. Think electronic bugs flying. The size of your fist or smaller. Penetrating your home. You're desperately seeking a place to escape them, but you can't.

The most likely places to escape said torment will be the wilderness away from all other people. Completely off the grid. Any electronic signal, however, will signal your presence and, at a minimum, a random check by the electronic bugs to see if you've been "marked."

The flying drones are designed to penetrate your car, your home, etc. will be horrifying. You will wish for death, but no death will come to you.
