USGS website traffic causing reporting blackout?
After the Japan 8.9 on 3/11/11 unique traffic to the usgs.gov earthquake monitoring site quadrupled overnight. With 400,000+ page views daily and a site ranking in the top 1500.. It begs the question: Is the site now reflecting the true data or are some seismic readings being manipulated or altogether omitted to avoid creating panic?

As a government run website can it really be trusted to reflect the raw accurate data in such tumultuous times?
Has anyone noticed discrepancies between other reputable earthquake watch sites and the u.s.g.s?
What other sites do GLP'rs follow and trust for reporting?

Really out of 2,500 people online, and 100 views the only meaningful comments on this are it's the illuminati!?

Somebody wanna take a crack at a coherent answer.. or are the "my potty needs changing: ask me a question" threads the attention span of the average GLP'r?

Re: USGS website traffic causing reporting blackout?
personally I do not know of an alternative, but meddling with EQ stats is a mugs game, one is almost bound to be found out. More likely it would just go offline, I have seen no sign of the servers at USGS 'thrashing' as yet.

It is noteworthy that when the radiation sensors do not give politically correct readings they are just taken offline
