Checking it out now. I don't think we're going to see any blackouts or anything crazy. Maybe a good geomagnetic storm if we get a large cme. Nypost hyping the fear factor.

HUGE SOLAR FILAMENTS: The sun today is peppered with large sunspots. One look at the solar disk, however, reveals something even bigger. "There are several huge filaments of magnetism," reports Francois Rouviere, who sends this picture from Cannes, France:

These structures are irregular tubes of magnetism holding masses of plasma above the surface of the sun. They look dark because they are cooler than the underlying star. Relatively cooler. If you could pull one off the sun and hold it up in the night sky, it would glow more brightly than a full Moon.

It is no exaggeration to say they are huge. "It's crazy," says astrophotographer Martin Wise of Trenton, Florida. "This one is more than one light-second long."

Wise inserted a picture of Earth to show how the filament dwarfs our planet. From end to end it stretches about the distance from Earth to the Moon.

Solar magnetic filaments are famously unstable. However, these have held themselves together for days. If one eventually erupts, it could hurl debris toward Earth. Stay tuned.

GEOMAGNETIC STORM WATCH: Minor G1-class geomagnetic storms are possible on July 13th when a high-speed stream of solar wind is expected to hit Earth's magnetic field. The stream is a mix of plasma flowing from two small holes in the sun's atmosphere. Any auroras will have to compete with the bright light of a full Moon.

Howdy, Mia It's great to see you check in today!

In the past 2 weeks I've been hammered with lame scary articles about AR3038. I've received about 40 articles, mostly cut & paste jobs of same fear-mongering garbage. Considering this sunspot produced no significant flares I was suspicious of the sudden interest by the media. We haven't had a slow news week for 8 years so I don't believe it was just filler material.

That being said, AR3055 could be a threat for Earth-directed CMEs or proton storm. My fear is if a really dangerous event happens, folks will dismiss it and just laugh it off. By the way, I did post on that thread but I was working today so I didn't really engage.

Solar Activity 24 hr Summary...

Solar activity reached low levels. Regions 3056 (S16E37, Cao/beta) and
3057 (N16E57, Dho/beta) produced the largest flares of the period, a
pair of C7/Sf flares at 12/0328 UCT and 12/1354 UTC respectively. The
other two numbered regions of interest, Regions 3053 (N15W19, Eki/beta)
and 3055 (S16W09, Eki/beta), were inactive. Region 3053 underwent
significant decay, losing over 50 percent of its sunspot area. There
were still numerous filaments on the disk, but all continued to be
stable. No Earth-directed CMEs were observed.

.Forecast...
Solar activity is expected to be low with a chance for M-class flares
(R1-R2, Minor-Moderate radio blackouts) and a slight chance for X-flares
(R3 Strong or greater radio blackouts) on 13-15 Jul.

SOLEN.info lists 3055 as 960 millionths in area and 3056 as a Beta-Delta configuration.

This is a really cool (and short--2 minutes) presentation
concerning the "filaments" on our star today!

This Youtube narrator (from Greece) gives us some
really gorgeous solar images showing one of the BIGGEST
filaments they've tracked in a long time. He claims that
if this filament were stretched out from our Earth--the
length of it from north to south would REACH THE MOON!

He also gives us a visual of the Earth's SIZE to the
current filament as of 7-13-2022! It's a big one!

Hope this dude stays in place while I try to get some
groceries in the next few days--over 100 degree temps
coming our way later this week in NW Montana! Yowwwzer!

SPACE JUNK OVER MONTANA: Across western Montana, reports are coming in of flaming objects in the sky. "Last night (July 12th) at 10:33 pm something big exploded and caught fire in the atmosphere," reports Marcin Grzybowski, who video recorded some of the fragments:

Misty Lundberg of Bozeman, MT, saw it, too. "It started as a bright white cloud, which broke apart into flaming bits streaking across the sky," she says.

This may have been the fuel tank of an old Russian rocket. Shortly before the explosion over Montana, the U.S. Department of Defense Space Track website issued a Trajectory Impact Prediction (TIP) message for an object called "BREEZE-M DEB (TANK)." According to their alert, a Breeze-M fuel tank would fall into Earth's atmosphere on July 13th at 04:06 ± 52 minutes UT. That fits the timing of the Montana explosion.

The fuel tank had been orbiting Earth for almost 10 years. It was part of a rocket that launched Russia's Yamal 402 geostationary communications satellite on Dec. 8th, 2012. Recent increases in solar activity (thank you, Solar Cycle 25) accelerated its orbital decay, finally bringing it down in a fiery display.

are feeling MAJOR SPACEWEATHER-SYMPTOMS up here in NW Montana.
(Have NO CLUE what the space-junk stuff over our state
last night was all about. I NEVER BELIEVE THE "OFFICIAL
BACK-STORY." This includes this report about a Russian
fuel-tank...NADA....)

I know something happened this A.M. just waiting for the

Had a long, sweaty, grueling day at work today, so I need to rest a bit. I try to keep an eye on the filaments and the x-ray flux whenever I can. I hope to be more engaged over the weekend. I truly appreciate everyone who posts relevant data and even speculative theories here.

Tend to agree with you. Something weird was happening (and went on for several hours) with the energies today.

I figured something of rather an "event" happened with
our star today around the 17:00 UTC timestamp mark--as
this was when the worst of our "spaceweather willies" began
today. We didn't just feel a "little odd"...we were really
ill. 2 naps and 1/2 bottle of aspirin didn't touch it!

I have watched this 7-13-2022 solar movie (with the date and timestamp
clearly visible)...and right at the 17:00 UTC mark we
not only see a SUN-DIVING COMET (of some size since you can
clearly see it at the right side of some of the CHOPPED-UP
VIDEO they still "left in the movie")...but then the
movie appears to be totally altered and footage that would
help you see what happened has been removed.

Look at the movie and play especially CLOSE ATTENTION at
the 17:00 UTC minute mark on 7-13-2022. Sun-diving comet
definitely in those edited movie clips:

Hopefully, they will replace the edited sections of the
movie BACK in the days ahead (they will generously let the
tax-payers who PAY FOR THESE MOVIES...see the results...but
not always.) This really fries me when I KNOW something
has happened and then we see this chopped-up movie presented
as if we are so stupid we can't figure out what has been
edited! (Did this set off one of the filaments? That is
logical.)

Oh well...suffice it to say something happened today
and those of us who are "space sensitives" definitely
felt it! I would call a sun-diving large comet, AN EVENT.

I guess you didn't see my post Simple27! I already
mentioned the sun-diving comet. And I'm not so sure that
it just "evaporated away" as they report. There would not
have been any spaceweather to make some "sensitives"
ill today if there were no effects from this impact. But...
hey, they can "spin it" any way they wish. lol!

My little chihuahua had a minor stroke from the
solar "energies" this comet-hit generated. It has
us very sad...but we realize that these are "strange days"
with regard to our changing climate, solar news and
general health. I believe these are related issues, though
I realize not everyone is on "the same page" with it.

Just thought I'd drop this for ya...The video is from
GREECE and I believe you will notice it does "differ"
slightly from our U.S. video reports of the SAME solar
event. (Isn't that odd?)
