CME Update: Imagery courtesy of the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) confirms that a coronal mass ejection (CME), likely of the halo variety is associated and should be directed squarely towards our planet. A Type II Radio Emission with an estimated velocity of 1263 km/s was recorded. An impact past our planet should be expected this weekend and will be good news for aurora sky watchers. This information will be confirmed once updated Earth facing coronagraph imagery is available. Stay Tuned!

There appears to be a fair amount of ejecta, especially towards the southeast. We'll have to wait for the coronagraph images to see what we're dealing with vis-a-vis the CME.

The worst part of that plasma cloud may not be hitting Earth directly. The thick density looks to be directed below the Sun-Earth line.

So looking at ENLIL, it seems the CME would arrive right about the same time as the plasma stream? How nice.

The leading edge of the CME was visible at 15:53z--just 18 mins. after the flares peak at 15:35. That is frighteningly fast!
