Bodyguard stabbed as knifeman launches attack on Jose Mourinho

A knifeman launched an attack on former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho as he signed autographs surrounded by hundreds of fans at an airport.

The man stabbed a security guard as he lunged at the football manager in Spain.

Mourinho, 48, was rushed away from the scene onto the Real Madrid team bus as 400 supporters watched on.

The security guard, called Eduardo, had blood pouring from a wound following the incident at the A Coruna airport, in north west Spain.

He was treated by the club's medical staff for a four centimetre wound.

Mourinho was only told about how close the knifeman got yesterday, it was revealed tonight.

The security worker thought he had been punched until he saw the blood pouring from the wound last Friday evening.

Newspaper El Periodico said: 'Mourinho stopped to sign autographs in arrivals, where a large number of Madrid fans were waiting for the team.
