Veterans' Diseases Associated with Agent Orange Exposure

Veterans may be eligible for disability compensation and health care benefits for diseases that VA has recognized as associated with exposure to Agent Orange and other herbicides.

Surviving spouses, children and dependent parents of Veterans who were exposed to Agent Orange and died as the result of diseases associated with Agent Orange may be eligible for survivors' benefits.

Some have suffered from Ischemic Heart Disease and even if they have not died have had open heart surgeries because of it, there are widow benefits as well. Please note that this is a FastTrack effort to compensate those, sometimes up to 100% disability, who very much deserve this. All the VETS have to do is file for it. It is now considered Agent Orange related and as long as the VETS have their DD214 to prove they served in the Republic of Vietnam or in-land waterways between January 9, 1962 and May 7, 1975, they will get compensated.

What was your cousins cause of death? My condolences

I am very sorry to hear this. 62 is a very common age for VETS of this era. Check into the "survivor's benefits," there may be compensation for his ailment as a result of Agent Orange exposure.

Thank you for the information. My step father now has Leukemia from exposure to Agent Orange, and is now rated at 100%. There is also a type of diabetes that stems from it. The Veterans Administration, government and military know full well and have known for a number of years the effects of Agent Orange and other poisons. The longer they deny, the less they have to pay out.

Isn't it nice of them to finally admit that Agent Orange caused these? Only 35 years after we got out and most of our vets are at Soc Sec age or close to it or over it or DEAD?

To bad, because they had a fire in 1974, and all my dads military records were burnt to a crisp, and the dam military knows this!

My dad and grand dad died, after exposure, and plus all the experimental vaccines they got before going over there.

All his children, are ill with everything from heart problems, to Rheumatoid arthritis, diabetics, Lupus, the list goes on.

They never got their military benefits, crappy medical coverage, we got no survivors compensation. I don't expect this to be anything different.

Especially since the military had that fire in records department.

Agent Orange was so potent that the Vietnamese are still having children with birth defects, all these years later, and veterans are having children with birth defects.

Vietnam is also suing the producers of AO and the US. Dow Chemical is pointing the finger at the government, saying they were forced by the Gov.

36 years later? If it was crippling they must be all are dead by now. That's no justice!

He kicked the bucket a couple of years ago. He was an electrician working on the flightline in Thailand. I'm not seeing the part which says he was on or near the perimeter and is presumed as exposed to Agent Orange.

This is very horrible that vets have had to experience these things (up to and including death)...However for at least the last 2 years (though probably a lot longer than that), they have been screening all vets during their primary care checkups to determine exposure during vietnam. I know because they asked me many times so far (even though I wasn't even alive back then--lol)...

Guess I meant to add that this isn't really new news, is it?...I didn't even see a date on the link.

It's true, but most vets who want to be seen by the VA should already be aware of this, as well as aware of their benefits...This thread would really only benefit immediate families of incapacitated vets or vets that passed away leaving behind dependents or widows.

I'm sorry for your loss. However, your mom could qualify for widow's survivor's compensation if he died as a result of Parkinson's Disease. It might be something worthwhile looking into.

There's not much we can do 36 years later, however some VETS are still alive AND suffering and are due compensation. This is really the reason for this thread. Spread this news. With medical evidence, for instance in the case of Diabetes II, back compensation could be rendered for as far back as November 9, 2000 [link to www.vba.va.gov] Also, any secondary conditions caused by Diabetes II, such as high blood pressure, is also compensated.

Contrary to popular belief, memos are not sent out to VETS informing them of these benefits. The Fast Track for the three new diseases were added in November of 2010. The other diseases were from the original compensation notice in March of 2001.

I feel this thread is very important, however, you are entitled to your opinion.
