I still have to say, no matter WHAT is going on with the sun, it has never resulted in something I have noticed IRL. so if this is a HUGE deal, is there a way I will detect an effect somewhere outside my home? Will there be a news report about ANYTHING significant?

Or is this like reading about weather on Mars. Exciting if you're a martian, but otherwise, who cares?

Not that I'm anti-doom. Far from it. It's just that I never see anything interesting happening no matter what the sun does or doesn't do. KWIM?

We will know for sure when it gets here. I saw one scientist speculate that it would have a north BZ to begin with keeping the K index down and then end with a south Bz. I saw another scientist that said the reason this whole cluster of sunspots that made up 1158 may have been so active was because they could have been in an area of polarity that was opposite the surrounding polarity. If this is the case, and if the storm from the 14th(it had a high -Bz) was actually a CME (from the M6.6 on the 13th)that was moved along at a quickend pace due to the Coronal High Speed Hole that was in effect, then this storm may be a lot stronger than they are expecting, and will make a very strong connection.

Well here i am all ready to waste another day waiting for the cme... No alerts... why are they not issuing any alerts given that these cme's do indeed exist and they are indeed headed straight for us?

At which particular country and where? I've no idea how you brainiacs interpret those pretty colored pictures, lol, I'm just glad you can!

Zactly---I`ve seen CNN, The weather channel and others talk about dinky old C flares several times over the last year..Now not a word about this event..something is definately up or at least it has the possibilities to make some noise...

NASA Issued Alert Data on CME and X Flare and other flares

Understanding that X flares are much stronger and faster than other flares and there were 10 C Flares along with a M flare before the X flare and CME happened. The X flare can/does catch up with the other flares, to where they can all hit at the same time.

NASA had issued and Alert with their estimated time of arrival. They had issued it for 2:57 UTC on the 17th with a + 6 hour confidence.

That time has come and gone.

So that means now the U.S - S. America - Canada will be sun facing today and will have the most impact if any impact from the CME.

Magnetosphere Stand off - is suppose to be 5.5 RE as the CME hits - from what NASA says - look at the graph above for what that means and how close the magnet field will come to the Earth in pressure.
