Thanks OP. Wowzer, that was a serious blast from the looks of it.

Actually there are two CME's that are inbound "Dual" CME's. The 1'st was set off with the M2.2 Flare yesterday, the second with the X2.2 early today UTC. The following video from Stereo Behind CORE2 shows them firing in succession. Be sure to watch these videos full screen for detail, and time/date stamp.

One of the biggest I have seen, and I watch them closely, as you can see from my video channel.

who has a link to those top-down solar-system simulations of the IMPACT WAVE for yesterday's sun action?

to show where we'll be when it hits, relative to the curving bow wave?

the M was a 6.6 and it has already come and gone. You could see the k-index rise and then lower as the M6.6 arrived. The X2.2 will arrive sometime around 8pm EST

glad to see somebody who knows the difference in a solar flare and CME. lol

it should be interesting to see if any of these CMEs the past two days cause us problems. from watching the STEREO images the past two days looks as though we have several CMEs headed our direction starting today.

All the flares have come and gone. It only takes a flare approx 9 min to arrive as they travel at the speed of light. There was an M class flare 6.6 on the 13th with no CME. There were several more C class flares with no CME's, then there was an M2.2 with a CME, on the 14th, followed shortly after by an X2.2 with a CME. The CME's travel at a much slower rate as they are plasma in nature and will be here within 18-32 hrs., give or take a few. The two CME's may combine and arrive together, as this has happend before, and the second seems to have blown off at a faster rate then the 1'st.

Actually, having said that, the right hand edge of the 17th blast arc might just DIP BELOW us but it should be a southern hemisphere grazer.

what does it mean to us, how will it affect the Earth?

If you put those three together..Looks like a fairly direct hit to me.

I would guess that some will see really cool "Northern Light" displays..and "Amature Radio Operators", may have some fun..other than that I guess we will just have to wait and see! I think there will probably be some satellite disruption myself...tv, cell phone, GPS, banking issues.. maybe...it should be interesting.

Here is the Goes X Ray Flux Data beginning February 13. It is updated every 5 minutes. I have marked the 13th M6.6 Flare, the 14th M2.2 Flare, and the 15th X2.2 Flare.

SOHO finally updated. Below is SOHO's C3 view of the Halo CME. It's a real shame that NASA is missing 8 hrs! of the most crucial frames! Like we havent seen this BS before!

You can still get a good idea of what happend by the webbing of plasma evenly distributed around the occulting disk. All frames from 2:18 untill 10:06 magically disappeared, and they are gone from C2 as well.

EDIT:[I removed this video), as NASA came up with the missing 8 hours of film! yea!

Maybe you can answer this for me:

Yesterday I noticed on one of my solar charge controllers that control an array of 6, 4.5 amp panels was charging at 29.1 amps. The math doesn't work but that's exactly what happened. Each of my charge controllers are rated at 30 amps so by putting 6, 4.5 amp panels on each one I figure I'm within the safety range, but it's still winter...what will happen this Summer? Is it possible that my panels can pick up more energy from the Sun due to a weakened magnetosphere or increase in solar activity?

With things going the way they are; all of GLP will be experts on the dynamics of the sun! HA!

If it was malfunctioning it would flash a code at me...then I'd have to get out the code book and figure it out...the sun kept poking in and out of the clouds so it's hard to say about the others...I didn't have time to stand there and watch them all, I just noticed that one because it should be no higher than 27 amps and it caught my eye.

We are in the process of another flare. The Goes X Ray chart is spiking strait up.

In all seriousness, the only solar doom I recall (some might remember) in the early part of the last decade, didn't a CME take out a fairly large chunk of the nation's western electrical grid?

It would be interesting to see how they react during this comming flare; still don't know if we will be rotated into its direction yet or not.
