Just moments ago, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak gave a speech on Egyptian television, he did not resign. In fact, he made underlined threats to the people of Egypt. After the speech, protesters in Tahrir square furiously waved their shoes in the air in a show of defiance

“My fellow countrymen, the citizens and men and woman of Egypt, I address you today in Tahrir square and nationwide, I address you all with a speech from the heart,” Mubarak said.

The President also stated that he will penalize those responsible for the violence.

President Mubarak disconnected?

Although Mubarak claimed he was “totally determined to fulfill all promises,” the one demand protesters continue to ask for was denied, his resignation. “I will not accept to have my orders dictated from outside. I announced in very plain unequivocal words that I will not run again in elections, I also announced I will remain to safeguard the interests of the people. I will not accept to be subject of foreign pressure.”

Mubarak went on by saying the vision he had laid out for the country was clear. “I have laid down a clear vision on how to solve the crisis,” he said.

The speech marks a clear statement by President Hosni Mubarak, he says he’s not going anywhere! “My fellow countrymen, our priority now is to restore confidence to all Egyptians.” Clearly, the old President is senile and completely disconnected from his people and the current situation. Some of Mubaraks statements could have been taken as threats by many.

“We can not tolerate for these circumstances to continue. It will end up in a situation where the youth who are calling for reform and change be the first victims.” Is Mubarak planning a military offensive?

The most controversial statement Mubarak made during the speech came towards the end. “I will not separate from the soil of Egypt until I am buried underneath it.” By making this statement, I believe President Mubarak has made his statement clear, he is not going to resign and he will stay in power until someone physically removes him.
