I can't help but wonder why the officials didn't just send someone with whatever documents were necessary to notify the owners of an infraction. Instead, 27 LEO's were used in this scenario and meanwhile, how many real crimes were committed that got no attention because of that?

Well my friend, welcome to the real world of liquor laws. It appears that your place of employment had what in some states is known as a Tavern license. Now, I'm assuming that your place of employment is mainly a bar, but what you may not be aware of is the fact that there are MANY types of liquor licenses available and they all differ from state to state. This situation leads me to the Tavern License model because with a license of that nature, the business is required by law to sell a certain percentage in food sales. Now, upon audit, it was found that your sales were off and sold an exorbitant amount of booze in relation to the amount of whatever "food" items were sold. TONS of bars across the country try to circumvent this "rule" by selling snacks at the bar, and you will find, if you ask, that they are required to sell food as per the terms of the liquor license they have to operate. You may be surprised to realize that MOST bars operate under a Tavern license (i.e. required to sell some type of food) and a true BAR license is incredibly hard to come by (hence the ammount of "traditional" bars you find scattered along the east coast that have been "grandfathered" in due to changes in liquor laws over the years. Go just about anywhere in the U.S. and you will find this is the case, only with different wording as each states laws are different. It's all a bunch of legal mumbo jumbo, but your place of employment mixed the mumbo with the jumbo and got caught. Happens all the time. I can only hope for your sake and financial well being that your POE still has their liquor license and you still have a job. Don't confuse government extremism with your bosses inability to understand how the laws apply to his/her situation.

This is 100% true and the fault of the owners. They hired me 3 weeks ago to fix the problem. A bit too late, unfortunately.

It's the tactics of the Sheriff that I take issue with.

They were harassing innocent employees and customers.

It's not a matter to be resolved by thugs with guns.

I hear ya man. You should hear the stories that I learned from in my 23 years in the biz. Modern "cops" are not what is needed for these situations, but due to bureaucracies, they are the ones assigned to deal with it. It's code enforcement, not law. The cops just deal with it in the only way they are trained to, which unfortunately is NOT code enforcement. Try managing a bar in a tiny mtn town that consumed more drugs and alcohol per capita than any major city in the world, and this is not a joke or a boast :)

One of the very few things you must do when asked by police is honestly and accurately identify yourself when asked.
However that does not mean show them ID, it just means you must say "my name is __________, I live at ___________ and not lie about it.
Beyond that, nothing else is required, but they always try to intimidate and scare people into more and that is what must be videotaped recorded and published for all to see.
