I bought mine yesterday and it was over $400 - many packets that I remembered purchasing for just over a dollar per packet were over $3 per packet. Has anyone else noticed this or do I just have a bad memory - it didn't seem nearly so high last year. I purchased online from Burpee. |

Shumway Thanks for the tip, I'll check them out, I try to buy heirloom or certified organic - hope they have them - good luck with your seeds, I'm about ready to start mine inside as soon as they all arrive - getting ready. I am always so excited about it this time of year and then by June when I'm spending four hours a day to pick beans or peas, I'm thinking "Why did I plant this much?" - but I am always ready to do it all again the next year. |

Yes but from 1982 you were cute in 82 but how much do you weigh now? Really now! That's not a question you should ever ask a lady! I will say, that at almost 51, I still look good in a bikini. ;) "Imagination is more important than knowledge" - Albert Einstein revstargazer (at) hotmail.com |

In certain situations, you can also use foodstamps to buy gardening tools and fishing supplies. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1224924Really?! I must say that I found it refreshingly enlightened for a government program to actually assist people in becoming self sufficiant rather than dependent. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1252552Good question. I remember reading a news story last year that Costco was going to start accepting EBT. Will have to check that out. I know there are a lot of others out there that have had to apply in this economy and since we're not the welfare types, buying in bulk, purchasing seeds etc., is the best way to make the most out of the situation and use it to become more self sufficient. Mrs. Smith, If you DO order Shumways catalogue, please pay attention to the notations for heirloom varieties. These, in my opinion are the ultimate. Particularley the tomatoes and green beans. You'll be well pleased with the majority of the purchases you might make. If you take a cutting from some of the tomatoes, plant them in a pot with a sterile potting soil and fertilize, you'll get tomatoes at Christmas! My bonifides are 30+ years of gardening and a sincere wish to help fellow gardeners. I'm going to send this to you in a PM. Only to assure you see it. No offence intended. Best wishes, Peavine "I'm still here, you bastards!"...Papillion |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1026599 United States 02/01/2011 11:08 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My current work trade situation is coming to an end and my new one comes with housing and utilities covered but no food or cash. So, I just swallowed my pride and applied for foodstamps to hold me over until I can get some cash flow and my new garden going. Quoting: Mrs. SmithThe intake worker was the one that told me when I said I was moving to a place with a garden. Too cool! you should get some cotton seeds! then spend a couple of days planting them, then sit around all summer and wait for them to grow. then spend a few days in the autumn picking the cotton balls. then sell the coton--it's very valuable going for around $170 per pound! Price: [link to www.cotton.org] then, complain that this work is too hard and invite some hidious bearded small hat wearing liberals to come organize demonstrations on your behalf. then burn down a major thriving city like detroit. then have legislation passed giving you jobs you are unsuited for ahead of white people. then don't even bother to work those jobs. then just live in ghettos and committ endless violent crimes vs actully picking planting and picking valuable cotton. oh, yeah, one last thing, get a brand new escalade and complain about how whitey "be keepin'" you down. (note: the foregoing was only a parody. no-one would actually ever do those things in real life.) :-) |
