Is The Situation In Egypt More Like The Fall Of The Berlin Wall (1989), Or The Iranian Revolution (1979)?
Is The Situation In Egypt More Like The Berlin Wall Falling In Eastern Germany (1989), Or The Iranian Revolution (1979)? Which is it more like, and what is the more likely outcome?

Demonstrations against the Shah began in January 1978. Between August and December 1978 strikes and demonstrations paralyzed the country. The Shah left Iran for exile in mid-January 1979, and in the resulting power vacuum two weeks later Ayatollah Khomeini returned to Tehran to a greeting by several million Iranians. The royal regime collapsed shortly after on February 11 when guerrillas and rebel troops overwhelmed troops loyal to the Shah in armed street fighting. Iran voted by national referendum to become an Islamic Republic on April 1, 1979, and to approve a new theocratic constitution whereby Khomeini became Supreme Leader of the country, in December 1979. In 1989, a radical series of Eastern Bloc political changes occurred, associated with the liberalization of the Eastern Bloc's authoritarian systems and the erosion of political power in the pro-Soviet governments in nearby Poland and Hungary. After several weeks of civil unrest, the East German government announced on 9 November 1989 that all GDR citizens could visit West Germany and West Berlin. [link to en.wikipedia.org]

Will the outcome be more freedom for the Egyptians, or an even stricter government rule over them?

I feel like it's more like when the Berlin wall was being broken up by the Germans, but my boyfriend thinks that a more strict Muslim government will take over! :(
