Re: What separates Human Beings from the animals?
Oh yea, then there is the genetic diversity thing. Each human looks completely different. Face, height, hair color, all of that such.

I mean even beyond RACE we all individually look so different.

What is with that?

Or is that just perspective as well?
 Quoting: Eyeseeall

Even though we look different, we're actually (genetically) very similar. In fact, you can find more genetic diversity from a single troop of any hominid species than in all 6.8 billion humans.

A mutated jawbone and language + writing has brought us to this point by all scientific measures.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1244531

"troop" as in a family? Or town?
 Quoting: Eyeseeall

The more you add to the mix, the more diversity. To make my statement more blunt, 20 random hominids. Or 20 from the same group even.

Or is it the ability to recognizes our obligation to all of life on earth as stewards of it? That separates us from animals. All animals exist for is daily survival, and for them there is no connection to history or the future. Man does recognize these things, and is cursed with it. Not only the realization of our own mortality, but the mortality of the universe itself.

We are the universe witnessing it's own existence, and all possibilities that could arise from it.

Deep shit.

I almost wish we didn't have that.

I don't think we would have ever reached tool construction or fire building without opposable thumbs. Perhaps language would have eluded us as well without writing tools?

But I'm no paleontologist.

Certainly everyone had heard of hero dogs. They wake you up when the house is on fire, they save babies, save other dogs and save the human on occasions.

Dogs are just more honest in their needs. Humans are deceptive. Kinda like young women whom marry ready to die rich old men.

Dogs are loyal. Loyal to a fault. (Although it may be) I don't think it is honesty as we know it. Its an overwhelming biological drive to protect its master. The owner of food.

Not that that is a bad thing.

What I mean is as humans, we have the capacity to switch that on and off at will. As well as the negative traits.

I think that falls under the category of "Illusion of order".

Reason is a human made concept to keep society in a "productive" and "Orderly", not "anti-productive" manner.

Who made these laws anyway? The Greeks? The religotards?

I agree, but not everyone. I still believe there are truly selfless people out there.

Leads to my next question.

Selflessness - Evolutionary fluke or a "divine" gift/curse from a creator?

Re: What separates Human Beings from the animals?
Dogs have proven to be selfless as well. Jumping into a cold river to save their master. My dogs are honest. They want their food, water, bones and whatever.

When others come around, they are suspicious. They like some and not others for a very good reason.

My dogs would definitely defend me.

Just as my other half would.

Be more specific.
As predatory animal or as prey animal.
We aren't able to be compared to prey animal as not group minds.
Humans are more unique.

We are neither and both. We are omnivorous.

I mean on the anatomical level we are VERY primate (with slight, admittedly strange, variations). No doubt about it.

we are one, divided into many, some call it ego and some call it soul. we have the ability to see, feel, and the ultimate powers to change and decide.

we are the same, just experiencing life in different ways and that effects our decisions. that gives us the present enviorment we are currently in - even as i type!

sit down and think about it, we are as icy all puts it, observing the universe unfold around us. so what are we exactly? this goes further than time..it makes some people think why in the hell do we exist?

whatever it is, its beyond scientific explanation. i mean, science can explain but only to a point. the only real fear in mans heart is that there may never be an answer.
