The Moon and everything else in the sky appears to rotate every time they are up. They have to because your perspective of them changes as you are on a round, rotating Earth. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1149306Never seen the shadow move horizontal In my life.. I remember the moon phases all the way back to the 50's.. Sump'ins not right.. Thank you. Anyone else ever see the moon do this in the distance past? Cause I haven't ever seen it either. Nope - never..! But they'll claim that field rotation is perfectly normal, and that we must be stupid not remembering seeing it before..! Not givin' in to that - this is NOT NORMAL! |

It certainly isnt horizontal in the US.... If the Moon goes up almost straight from the horizon (as it does when seen from the equator), then the crescent appears horizontal. If the Moon rises at a shallow angle (as seen far from the equator), then the crescent is mostly vertical. [link to www.astro.uu.nl] So you need to prove your claim. Go sit outside all fucking night and watch the moon 'rotate' as it goes through the fucking sky. Or go to an astrophysics website and try and teach yourself how it works. Or you could just say,"Well, one time someone explained the basics of orbital mechanics to me, but I didn't really understand it. But now I'm seeing something that I don't understand so clearly these mathematical models are wrong and the world is doomed. I'm so glad that I noticed that the world is topsy turvy without having any actual understanding of the current theory." It's people who are willfully ignorant like you who make this world such a shithole. User ID: 1223329 United States 01/24/2011 02:21 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The reason all the images of moon phases show a verticle line is because it's the most logical way to display it. As shown in the image above, depending on where you are at at on the earth the orientation the moon will look completely different. So displaying it to show exactly how it appears to you in the sky would require the moon phase program to know where you were at on the earth which is too complicated for most moon phase programs so they just show you it straight up and down. I will attempt to find a good ephemeris program that you can enter your longitude and latitude or nearest large city and it can display every object in the sky to your orientation. |
