I'm sorry you've never noticed field rotation before. It has always happened. The Moon and everything else in the sky appears to rotate every time they are up. They have to because your perspective of them changes as you are on a round, rotating Earth.

Which is of course, why a lot of us here on GLP have never seen this before, right? I swear I spent a lot of time camping and such and the moon always did it's phases vertically. I have the same request that someone else had...If this has been happening forever because it HAS to happen then it would be really easy for someone to post pictures of the moon in the past doing what it is doing now. Someone specified any picture of the moon before 1990.

Amazing how we have been on earth for this long and only right NOW are people trying to explain this to us. I am sure if we noticed it last year or the year before there would be a ton of posts asking and the question being answered. I Google'd horizontal moon and posts on GLP and I can't find a single post about this last year. Or the year before. Like it just started happening and now that people are getting wise to it others are trying to say that it is normal. Kinda like the birds committed mass suicide, right?

So in other words you didn't bother to even look up field rotation or think about why it not only happens all the time but has to.

Think about it. When the Moon rises, you are looking East. When high in the sky you are looking South (assuming you are in the northern hemispheres). When it sets you are looking West. Your perspective changes because you are looking different directions. This HAS happened before. Look up "wet Moon". Hawaiian mythology describes it as did Shakespeare. Early enough for you?

i didnt see it move at all.... and only the top right side of the moon is dark, looks normal.

I have seen it horizontal during its phases.
First time made me really think, but it is normal....well whatever normal is.

Actually the moon rose in the SE. If it HAS happened before then why can't someone post a picture? If I search for wet moon I get wikipedia....and are we not always saying that you can not trust wiki as a source because anyone can add anything they would like to it? Besides that there is not even a picture of it there. Not like I am not surprised. I searched wet moon for images and a bunch of animation comes up...like Japaneses animation picture.

Vertical? You think the terminator should be vertical? The terminator is always perpendicular to the source of illumination.

Hold up a baseball. Which way does the shadow run on it? Is there any way you can make the shadow move OTHER than in direct relation to the light that falls on it? No!

So what would be required for the Moon's terminator to be perfectly vertical? Why, it would require the Sun be an equal distance above the horizon! Since the Sun is rarely out at night, this is obviously incorrect.

then you need to go back and watch the video 15 to 20 times and focus on the tree branches as the moon moves rapidly. This is not normal regardless of what the shills say.

Never seen the shadow move horizontal In my life.. I remember the moon phases all the way back to the 50's.. Sump'ins not right..

Yes, either they didn't watch the video or well, they didn't watch the video. Cause if they had watched the video then they would have seen the obvious rising of it. As in yes, the tree branches stay still and the moon is going up into the sky.

Most people that took pictures of the Moon before the advent of cheap digital cameras were astronomers using a camera or telescope mount designed to correct for field rotation.

You didn't read the link you posted, did you? It was talking about water content ON the Moon, IN the soil. The picture is NOT meant to show a "wet" crescent Moon.

Again, it doesn't turn, your perspective does. East or Southeast, the explanation I gave still holds.

I saw what you mean, the fast moon, the branches. Could be something else, however, I have noticed this week the moon phases are now going in a vertical direction, not horizontal like it's been All My Life. And the dark part isn't so dark, it's more brown/orange color, glaringly weird this morning, easier to see in the daylight. This is from Gulf Coast vantage point, Texas.

Hmmm...it does talk about the soil. Proves my point that I can't find a link talking about the "wet crescent moon" that you are talking about. If it was so common you'd think it would be easy to find on the internet and easy to show a picture of. So since the advent of cheap digital cameras there has been no one who took a picture of the "wet moon" then? Simply amazing.

When I search Google for "wet crescent moon" (in the quotes) I get 395 results total. Yeah, looks like it has been happening forever and everyone talks about it.

If the moon rises and sets lower and further south in the winter time then why is it that the moon I am observing is rising in the Northeast? That is also odd.

Simple exercise.

DON'T look for stupid pictures online.

DON'T view the Moon once and try to compare it with your expectations.


JUST do this; view the moon several times tonight, over the longest time span you can manage. You will discover the line of the terminator rotating slowly THROUGHOUT THE NIGHT.

Roughly speaking, imagine the Moon is a big clock face, only instead of the hands moving, the hour hand stays stationary and the face moves under it. That's the amount of movement over time you should observe in the Moon over the course of a night's observing.

Thank you very much! Also I was wondering if anyone could tell from the video if the moon is the side we are supposed to be looking at. We all definitely know that the moon doesn't rotate, hence the jokes about the dark side of the moon that we never see. I know there was one shot where he zoomed in on the moon and you could see the details of the moon pretty well. Besides that...why when he zooms in sometimes is there a greenish halo around the moon? I can research this, but right now my tooth is killing me and I have to go take a pain pill. (Tuesday morning dentist appointment can not come fast enough!)

I seen it like that a few times last year. A couple times the moon looked like it was smiling, with the crescent on the bottom.

OP you are 100% correct!It started THIS YEAR to coincide with the bird sealife and mammal die offs along with the multiple 7+ quakes the biblical flooding and last but not least the sun rising 2 days early in the Arctic and the latter is a very big deal indeed!!!!!The Earth has wobbled!

I have looked at the moon tens of thousand of times in my life and it never did this. Normal phases of the moon shows it should be phasing out vertically, if it was different then they would be showing it as different on the websites that show us the moon phases.

Did you go camping in the winter though? I have :) and I've seen moons like this. There is nothing that I can see with my eyes that is wrong with the moon. Real evidence, if there is any, can be obtained with an ephemeris. But people keep on posting videos instead ...

ok think north and south.....top and bottom right?....sometimes

as the moon is rising the shadow goes from north to south....or the top as you look at it facing east

when it is directly above the shadow goes north to south.....or the side as you look at it above

when the moon sets the shadow goes north to south....or the bottom as you look at it facing west


another example is the 'face' on the moon......it looks best at moon rise......its crooked when its directly above.....and upside down when it sets

what your callin the 'top' of the moon is really the west side....remember north to south....so when it rises the west side is on top....directly above the west side faces the west....when it sets the west side is on the bottom

It's 10:05 here in San Diego, I looked out my upstairs window and the moon is not even out..It is no where in the sky to be seen...

and the only way it would look vertical at all times is if you layed on you back and turned your head and looked at it

then your head would be north and your feet would be south....look left for rise.....straight ahead .....and to the right at set

but if your standing up it messes the perspective up and it only looks like it the top

the sun is one color so you dont notice the difference in perspective but the moon isnt one color


your main problem is you dont have your north/south correct
