Quoting: Ex-AFOSIWell I've given up all video games, don't watch much TV anymore, and only read for education. Seems like I have more time. My wife and I've increased our work-outs for one. Needless to say I can put an hour a day towards it. I've seen some local and national talent that is underground and way off the radar, but interesting still the same. I feel like a new start has begun. Quoting: NeoFistSorry noob... As to your question, it all depends on your goal. Do you want to eventually be a song writer? A studio musician? Just a dude in a band? Just the dude at the party who gets drunk and tries to get everybody involved? It all depends, man. "God is dead" -Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche- "Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche is dead" -God- |

nrg(rambling) User ID: 989174 United States 01/11/2011 09:09 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Far better is it for an aspiring musician to become proficient with a less popular instrument with wich to accompany the often played git fiddle and vocals. My suggestion would be mandolin, Fiddle or banjo, Up right bass if your funky like that or even brass, brass is good. If you are not married than go for the upright Bass along with a guitar sized four string acoustic for beach evenings. So laid if you learn a cello. |

Quoting: NeoFistNow, do I go acoustic or electric? Both have their up-side. I would go electric and get a nice amp that can emulate familliar sounds. Depending on your budget.... on the low end you can use a Behringer "vamp" modeling amp that copies a line 6 for much less money. I used to have a 2x10 model that definately sounded good for the money. It really all depends on the type of music you want to play. I like to rock so I like the EMG pickups but you may want something different. Just do a little research. There's a wealth of internet knowledge. GL |

I want to write songs like this I want to rock like this The good new is that you don't need to be "great" at guitar to write and play songs like that. You can absolutely catch up to his guitar level in no time. It's the songwriting skills that you need to excel at to write decent songs. Take it from me: I've been writing songs all my like with decent success and I'm only mediocre at guitar (at best). You can totally pull that off.
