 He'll be out of contact except by mail for almost a year - being sent into deep country with no electricity or personal phone or Internet access. Please send your prayers.  No...my stepson was deployed to an extremely isolated FOB in Afganistan with the Marines twice. They have satellite phones and generators. He was able to call home 2 or 3 times a month. I guess your son will find that out when he gets there.
