Diabetes, metabolic syndrome or, more commonly, beer belly syndrome, caused by trans fat.
Former Stanford University director of endocrinology Dr. Gerald Reaven named Syndrome X in 1988 after he observed a collection of health problems ultimately linked to cells' inability to process insulin.

Also called metabolic syndrome or, more commonly, beer belly syndrome, the prevalence of the condition has increased along with the amount of refined foods and partially hydrogenated oil (trans fat) Americans eat.

It changes how the cell membranes work -- how they talk to each other and function. Trans fat can help make cells resistant to insulin, and when you have resistance to insulin you have obesity.

The cure?

Cut out carbs, which can do the same damage.

Animal fats, coconut oil, and olive oil are healthy and part of the cure.

Dan's Low Carb Journey

One man's education in the low carb lifestyle. If you're new, please read the oldest entry first.

Posted September 2012

This coming Febuary will be 3 years since I began my weight loss journey. That was 158 pounds ago. Gone with the weight are type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, a gualbladder and heart problem.

I never thought I would lose so much weight or have so much energy. My story has been featured on several other websites. Some of the biggest are Dietdoctor.com, Livin La Vita Low Carb, Wheat Belly, Latest in Paleo, and Carbohydrates Can Kill. I would like to thank those sites for linking to my blog. I've linked to all of them in the past.

One site that saw my story on Facebook, read my blog emailed me and said the the diet I am on is
"unhealthy, not proven by science", and that I was "just trying to build traffic to make money from the ad on my site". What can I say? My life and the lives of hundreds of thousands of others are PROOF that a low carb high fat (LCHF) Paleo lifestyle works. PLUS we have all the studies that back it up.
Like Dr. James Carlson says, "these are FACTS not opinion".
