HAVE YOU EVER EXPERIENCE "FOOD PHOBIA"?Please share!
I think..I'm at the brink of developing Food Phobia.

The trigger was, during a lunch meeting 2 years ago, I had a hearty meal and shared dessert with a friend. The portions were huge and I was so full and feeling suffocated, hard to breathe.

It was so frightening and I always remember that moment. I had to loosen up my belt to be able to breathe better. The lesson I learned is to eat small portions. No more big portions for me.

I also read that when we eat a big meal, the body has to work hard during digestion, thus sending the oxygen and blood to the digestion (stomach). This is causing our brains to lack oxygen and feel sleepy overall. The sleepy feeling is frightening to me.

Lately, I heard stories from friends and acquintances who develop gout and one woman almost get a stroke after indulging lobsters on a buffet. She was still 27 years old. She finished her 4th plate of lobster and suddenly feel light headed and unable to focus.

I admit that food has nice taste, but too much of food become toxic and life threatening.
Yesterday I cancelled a restaurant reservation because the portions are so big and the thought of looking at the food on my table gives me the chills. I opt for a small bowl of salad instead.

Anyone experience similar condition? My partner told me that this is mental. That this is an unnecessary phobia. But, I don't want the suffocation and whenever I remember the 27 year old woman almost getting a stroke after her seafood, I cringe at the thought of food.

All I do now is eat small portions of food. I avoid sweets and high cholesterol foods also. I also limit carbs. I just want to be healthy.

Is there anyone on GLP that also experience the same condition? Please share your story and views.

Re: HAVE YOU EVER EXPERIENCE "FOOD PHOBIA"?Please share!
Personally I think that food is like a double edged sword. It can be so tasty and tempting, for certain people causing addiction, and these addictions are serious. Food is also keeping us alive and keeping the body functioning well. Everything in moderation.

I see that there is an agenda with the development of the food industry business and culinary expansions. People become obsessed with food. I read some food blogs and discover that certain people spend most of their incomes on food and indulging meals...some even eat gourmet at fancy restaurants few times a week.

At the end of the day, the same foods that they glorify so much, brings them diabetes, gout, high blood pressure and other life threatening diseases. Is it worth the trouble? I don't think so.

TPTB is smart enough to allow this situation. When people are caught in an addiction (food addiction that is), it will be so hard to break the addiction and most people are stuck and end up in hospital because of the food they ate. It's like a sweet poison..

There is no such thing as "comfort food". I personally think that it's an addiction. A fix. Like getting yourself a cigarette fix when you're nervous.

It sounds to me you have a healthy attitude towards food. I can relate with a lot of what you have written. Yes I've experienced eating so much I had to 'loosen my belt', sickening feeling.
Only thing different I can add, I've been feeling very stressful lately, world events, personal issues, etc, and reaching for food, trying not to smoke as much. But nothing is satisfying my appetite.I know it's not healthy, but I am considering diet pills just to try and turn it off! Have you experienced this?

I'd say that your reaction was a little extreme, but you have scared yourself by overeating. All I can say is listen to your body and learn when it says "enough".

The most difficult thing is being with a partner or among other people where "enough" for you is just a starter for them, and peer pressure obliges you to eat more than you're comfortable with. You can decline to make yourself ill graciously though, just say the the food is lovely but you are now full.

The tightening belt situation and MSG incident made me dread going to restaurants. MSG fear also made me avoid Chinese restaurants. The food tastes good but I just don't want to take the risk. Sweets are also frightening to me. I used to love sweets though. Basically I avoid eating until feeling full. it's scary.

AC 900755, I think you are experiencing food addiction. Your appetite cannot be satisfied, it's the beginning stages of a food addiction.

Booze doesn't help IMO. It makes me dehydrated. And it triggers anxiety. sigh.

Thanks for the advice AC..anyway, eew the Monty Phyton video is sooo disgusting. yak
"Food pushers" are usually present during family gatherings. It can get frightening. I usually try to eat very slowly and try to hold my drink with me and appear busy most of the time, if all else fails, I will give an early excuse to go home and usually they will hand me some food to package and take home with me.

Eating the take home food is not a problem for me because I can adjust the portions. But having someone dump a huge rib on your plate or some casserole is way different. The memory of being suffocated will replay in my mind.

Just remember that food is energy and that if you can put the right energy into the food while you are preparing it, you can literally transmute the toxins.

Watch the movie "Like Water for Chocolate" to see a good representation of how food absorbs the intent of those who prepare it. I have learned never to eat in busy restaurants because that hectic energy gets transmitted to my meal and it never digests well, even if it is the highest quality ingredients. But the best idea is to prepare your food yourself, blessing it and thanking it for blending so well with your body to give you just the right nutrients to get you through the day.

Thanks for the enlightening information, AC.
At this time, I decide to only eat sufficient amount of food just to keep hunger away.
I prevent myself from feeling full, especially stuffed. It's frightening.
