Mini Survival Kit - Suggestions?
I'm putting a small kit together that will fit in the pouch of my knife. Here is what I have in it so far...

Lansky shapening stone
Swiss steel and striker
~12 feet of snare wire
~40 feet of 10lb test fishing line
12 small hooks
12 small split shot sinkers
several safety pins
2 feet of tinfoil
razor blade
4 bandaids

Keeping in mind this all has to fit in an Altoids tin(exact size of the pouch on the sheath), any ideas on something small and usefull to add? It's pretty full, I'd probably have to remove something to add something. Thanks.

Wrap it with paracord.

It wouldn't fit, very snug. I actually do have a good bit paracord wrapped and tied on the bottom of sheath already though.

I know a bandana won't fit in there, but you should keep one tied to your belt loop or something. Bandanas have multi uses...water filtration, sun protection, wind protection, concealment...could even be used as a weapon. Learned this from Dual Survivor. Love that show.

I wrapped duck tape around an old plastic credit card or something similar.

That is something I need to pick up for sure. I'm guessing a nylon/polyester or something would be better than cotton?

For me, it would have to include either a magnifying glass or a pair of folding reading glasses. I cannot thread a needle or get a screw driver onto a screw slot without.

Having some tape would be good. I'll see if I can fit a small length in there.

Cotton is a good breathable fabric. It also dries quickly. Get one of each...cotton and nylon.

also very useful is the adhesive backed foil tape. You can get several feet of it down to a very small size and it is very versatile for making and mending.

All I can add is McGyver. If you can't survive with him you can't survive. Only problem is what part of the tin to put him!

Do you have room for a sandwiched size ziploc bag? That could be used to contain water...not very big, but you want compact.

My survival knife has a hallowed out handle that contains everything on your list in a watertight seal. One side is a sharp blade and the other a jagged saw. The sheath has 3 yards of parachord. It's awesome!

I was thinking H2O, as well. I have a case of small 4oz. water packets that I purchased online. Nice size for stashing/packing.

Wow, that sounds cool. Did you make it or buy it? Link for more info. Thanks.

A few people that I talk with have been throwing around whether cyanide, mercury, or hemlock belongs in the kit.

Wrap the sheath in 550 paracord...7 strand. Then make a belt out of the same stuff.
