You might want to scope out some of the better diving knives. Using a hammer on them doesn't even hurt them, end of the handle or back of the blade (for splitting firewood into kindling)

Also check out ESEE knives (formerly RAT Cutlery) for real-deal survival knives and equipment. They are similar in construction to the TOPS knives, US made from 1095 carbon steel.
