I mean that is a huge amount of snow. But they expect things like this every winter don't they? I live in Michigan, we always expect massive amounts. Good that you got the lot of it away though. That stuff can pile up quickly. |

Looks like you all got a big jump on the Snowball award this year!!! I always hate a big storm this early in the season, it seems like as soon as you get done moving all the snow around it melts and makes a freakin mess... That stuff can pile up quickly. I believe the issue was lack of communication, people didn't buy snow tires soon enough, this was the first major snowfall for the specific area, and most of the snow got bad during rush hour on the 23rd...really bad timing for snow to get bad. So when people had not gone and replaced their tires soon enough, they can't get through the massive snow drifts and piled up snow, which means the snow plows can't get through, which means that the snow piles up more. Add into that a weather man that claimed that the weather was going to clear up (3pm wednesday), when it didn't, it was only painfully apparent at 5pm-8pm, and at 8pm, those who were stuck were...well...in a pile of snow on the thruway. Go Erie County. Oh and btw, it mostly wasn't so bad in most of buffalo, just southern buffalo, west seneca, down to mid hamburg and blasdel?...and through to somewhere near or on the way east toward rochester. Massive mayhem. Hopefully this will be a lesson. I'd expect this in NC or some random snowstorm in florida...not Erie County, NY. People new it was coming nothing new here. People that use snow tires have the on already. You will find a lot of people don't use them. Ive never had snow tires on my car, never felt the need for them. I live in Hamburg and we ended up with 20 inches of snow. The roads where cleared fast and all the kids where in school today. My grandma said there's always a huge line/wait at tire stores, if not complete delay same day as first major snowfall. So...I can't say that's true. Also a certain person I know didn't get snow tires for their car and spent all day today driving around in their truck because of it. xD I don't make up these kinds of details. I was stuck in traffic on wednesday, but they did tow a lot of cars after a while and put people up in hotels with a red cross center set up for those put in the hotel (I'd guess they were able to go home yesterday, but the radio was saying something about people who had their cars towed out of the mess should call such and such a number)... I just am glad we got out of the mess before it got bad (before 8pm wednesday). No, it wasn't so bad today. The issue was wednesday night. I texted the hell out of my friend to my dismay about the whole ordeal. 3 hours of driving for, at most, 3 miles of distance. Not my cup of tea. Quoting: RememberThisYoure going to run out of places to put it all I think most of the snow coming is going to go south into ski country. They love it their. We don't mind it in my town either, more space to put it. The wind might get to be a problem on the north south roads. Those white outs can be dangerous. Its winter here. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1182989They do plow all the streets here pretty fast. Some do take a couple of days because of the cars that are parked or stuck in the street. In the city they have alternate parking. So the plow goes down one side of the street then everyone moves their cars over so they can plow the other side. Hopefully on the same day.
