Why I think that the new TSA scanners are BS.
This is my recent personal experience with the TSA and why I think that the new scanners are BS.

As I had previously posted, I flew during the Thanksgiving holiday to keep a commitment that I had made to a family member. My departure from a small local airport was uneventful, and routine, as none of the new scanners have been installed there yet. When I travel, I always carry a fair amount of cash, just as a back up if my credit cards are lost or stolen. I carry this in a small wallet that I keep in my bra. (Please don’t say pictures or it didn’t happen, because I am not posting pics for all of the voyeurs on GLP) The wallet is small, made of thin nylon fabric and it has a plastic zipper, so there is no metal on it. I carry only US paper currency in it, not any metal or liquids of any kind. When I wear it through a regular metal scanner it goes through just fine.

Anyway I had several thousand dollars in this wallet, because I was also going to make some purchases to help this family member out, and when you are in another city the credit card companies sometimes will lock down a credit card if you make a large purchase in an out-of-state area as a fraud precaution measure until they can speak with you to confirm the purchase.

On the return trip, in which I was flying out of a medium sized airport that did have the new scanners I had a totally different experience, which has left me questioning the validity and purpose of these new scanners even more than previously. I again had several thousand dollars cash in the small wallet in my bra. Not everyone was selected to go through the new screening process but somehow I was “lucky” enough to be selected. Someone that was traveling with me went through the traditional metal detector without any additional screening. I am not sure if this selection process is totally random, or if I meet some type of suspicious criteria (GLP member?).

I had taken a good dose of potassium iodide to protect my thyroid, and we were already a bit late for the flight due to a delay at check in because the ticket agent was late and I had to check a bag, so I decided, WTF, I am going to see what this is all about. I figured that I would just walk through the scanner, pick up my things, which were on the traditional baggage x-ray table and be on my merry way. I thought that this would be faster than a pat down, but I was wrong, as I ended up with both.

I entered the new scanning booth, which has markings where to put your feet which causes your legs to spread apart about 1-½ feet (my guess anyway). I was then told to place my hands above my head, palms out and thumbs lightly touching by a male TSA agent, who I assumed was now going to see me naked (I am female BTW). I am not a prude, but I must admit that I found that to be a bit unsettling, especially without drinks and dinner first (LOL).

A female TSA agent was standing directly in front of me while the male TSA agent was apparently viewing me and somehow my bra wallet was noted. This created some consternation on the part of the agents who informed me that I would need to remove my bra wallet. The female agent asked me if I would like to go into a “private screening area” to remove my wallet or if I felt comfortable lifting up my shirt to remove it. No way was I gong into a “private screening area” so I whipped my shirt up, pulled the wallet out of my bra and handed it to her. She said that the wallet had to go through the regular x-ray machine used for the carry-on baggage. I asked if since they had already presumably viewed the contents of the wallet with the body scan if it still had to go through the regular carry on baggage unit, and she said that it did, without offering any further explanation. The then told me that she would need to do a pat down of my upper body.

I was told to raise my arms, and she patted my upper body down. She used the backs of her hands, and went around my breasts with the backs of her hands but did not squeeze or otherwise fondle me, and I was not asked to remove my bra. She did not pat me down below the waistline. She then took my wallet over to the baggage area where it was run thru the x-ray machine and returned to me. I did count the money later and none was missing.

So my question is, if the scanner is supposed to be effective at preventing people smuggling bombs on board of aircraft, why did my wallet need to additionally be x-rayed by the baggage scanner? Since it was a thin nylon wallet in the front of my bra, why couldn’t the scanner “see” the contents? Why was it still necessary to run a thin nylon wallet thru the x-ray baggage scanner if this new scanner is “so effective”? Is the scanner really so worthless that it can’t see anything through thin nylon, requiring the wallet to be secondarily scanned by the baggage x-ray? Can the body scanner miss a potential bomb or other contraband if it is enclosed in thin nylon material? Was I being harassed because I was carrying several thousand dollars in cash?

This whole experience has left me with many more questions than answers. Suffice it to say that I do not plan to fly the unfriendly skies again anytime soon. rant

I wrote a very complete answer to your post, but I hit a "cntrl something" and everything I wrote during the past half hour disappeared.

I think that's the way God wanted it.

So I happen to have the following loaded up in my clip board and I will offer this instead...

*****

Posters and Repliers...

I am not going to tell you to post your thoughts about the TSA or not to post your thoughts about the TSA.

And nobody knows for certain whether this so called DHS Directive is a hoax.

Nonetheless, consider it REAL!!!!!!!!!

If you choose to post something about the TSA and you feel that Ron Paul's Passenger Dignity Act would help remedy your complaints, then somewhere in your post or reply, ask your readers to support Ron Paul's Passenger Dignity Act.

If the DHS investigates you because you are a Domestic Extremist, then you have recourse under the law.

If the DHS is labeling people who are urging support for a bill in congress, they will be shooting themselves in the foot and you will have legal standing in a recourse against the DHS.

The most important thing that anyone should know about the DHS memo is that the term DOMESTIC EXTREMIST is NOT in any dictionary. That is, the DHS (if the directive is real) made the whole thing up!

There is no definition in any legal dictionary or in any law of the term Domestic Extemist. It means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!

There is no historical record for such a term and there is no justification for anyone to be the subject of a DHS investigation (phones tapped and such) because they were a domestic extremist (even if no such thing exists).

In other words, if the directive is read (and I will act that it is until I am informed otherwise) the DHS is making up a law that doesn't exist, and then, taking legal action without the concurrence of a court of law based on a legal premise that does not exist.

This was one of the staple tactics in Nazi Germany.

I urge all of you to call your congressional representative and urge them to support and/or co-sponsor Ron Paul's Passenger Dignity Act.

It seems hot chicks are thought of as potential terrorists moreso than the rest....

Something tells me you're hot. (But I could be wrong, of course- although I doubt it.)

Call your congressman/woman and demand that he or she supports Ron Paul's Passenger Dignity Act.

Re: Why I think that the new TSA scanners are BS.
Thanks for the replies.

Part of the point that I was trying to make was about the lack of dignity, but the main point was that the new body scanner could not identify what was in the small nylon wallet, and therefore needed to be rescanned with the old style baggage scanner. Therefore the scanner is worthless for the disclosed purpose of the detection of dangerous items carried under clothing, so what good is it?

My take is that the new scanners have a completely different purpose, than what is currently being disclosed. I have wondered if the real purpose is to generate some sort of biometric data base. If I am now in that data base, so be it, as I was probably already there (NRA member). If they come for me because of my beliefs, I am locked and loaded.

BTW I was very hot and did modeling years ago. Now I think that I am only soccer mom hot :( :(, but my hubby still thinks I'm hot.

The only real purpose of the scanners is to humiliate the American people and make huge profits for the company that makes the scanners.

I think they can see the end of the profit from making porn from the American public. Soros sold his stock in the company that makes the scanners. Soon everyone will show up to fly in their birthday suits.

Re: Why I think that the new TSA scanners are BS.
TSA scanners are completely ineffective, dangerous, and have nothing to do with "security" or "our safety". The whole thing is PHONY to the core.

It's about shredding our DNA, causing cancer in as many people as possible so Obamacare can capitalize of our sickness while we die, and dehumanizing us and getting us used to complying with anything the fed nazis tell us to do, no matter how unreasonable. This was TPTW's test to see how brain dead we really are. It's amazing how many sheep line up without questioning the scanners falling into the fed's trap by saying "as long as we're safe"..STUPID PEOPLE! They are NOT safe, nor free. Groping and body scanners are not even intelligent profiling, it's idiotic from EVERY perspective, as the OP correctly pointed out.

Re: Why I think that the new TSA scanners are BS.
I have been driving on recent trips, but I have a business trip coming up in about 2 weeks, and there is just no way around flying. I must leave on Friday and be back Sunday night, and the mileage is just too great, and this is not a trip that I can send someone else on, it is simply too important for one of my businesses. (Actually I am taking one employee (also female) along with me.)

I am dreading this after my last experience with the TSA. I will be wearing a jogging sweat suit, my hair in a ponytail and no make-up. I don't need to take a lot of cash along, so no money in my bra. If anyone has any other serious suggestions, I would be happy to hear them after my last experience. hf

I will report on the outcome and if my experience is different this time around.
