Quoting: Smilin' Irish EyesTwo boys ages 5 and 7 - Legos, bakugan, transformers, etc. Any ideas for sales? sure , more lead coated toys made in China are always great gifts for your child..LOL I don't think there is any toy made in America anymore.. Maybe assembled in america.. Experience hath shewn, that even under the best forms of government those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny. Thanks, I may have to drive to South Bend tonight although it is supposed to be freezing rain tonight and the roads to South Bend are basically country roads that you share with the Amish. I appreciate all comments, just about to start baking some chocolate chip cookies. Quoting: Smilin' Irish EyesThey are hard to find, and in general more expensive. I try to buy American made as much as possible. It wouldn't be worth disappointing children on Christmas though. I think a pass is in order. |

(OP) User ID: 656642 United States 11/25/2010 04:01 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Don't get them toys, get them usefull things instead. Such as a dictionary and a copy of the US Constitution. Then get them a book on growing their own food and some seeds and have them start a garden when it gets warm. They'll fight this at first but a few weeks after Christmas when they know they won't be getting any toys, they'll take to their books and new hobbies. Trust me! Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1131832When I was pregnant with the oldest I bought 20 leather bound classic books (Collected works of Mark Twain, Shakespeare, the Iliad, War and Peace); each year I pick out two books, inscribe a heartfelt message on the first leaf, put the date and wrap it for them. They already have a copy of the Constitution (two years ago, went to Washington DC and bought them both a book on the Constitution). As far as planting a garden, well, between the moles, the groundhogs, deer and rabbits, I can't even keep a garden. Hope you have a great safe and happy Thanksgiving. Thanks for the post. Anonymous Coward User ID: 1066468 United States 11/25/2010 04:30 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I bought seeds for my daughter a couple of Easters ago and she complained. She planted the seeds, and they started growing and she was excited and happy. She later thought it was a great present. How about an herb garden that can grow inside? Just a thought. One time when I was a kid my dad had me, my sister and brother plant blue spruce trees (3). I look at Google Earth online every now and then to see the house I grew up in and the trees are still there and huge. That is something they could remember and appreciate. My daughter is a good artist, so I tell people to get her art supplies. If they like art and crafts you can go to A.C Moore and look around for things. Another time I took her to the Holiday's Boston Pops as part of a Christmas present. It was Christmas Eve day and it was a surprise for her, and we had a great time. Probably the best Christmas we had was in Rhode Island at Slater Mill Park. They have a carosal there, $.50 bagged popped corn and a house that the Daughters of the American Revolution and Sons of the American Revolution toured the public. Well we just got finitued with the house tour and the Sons started playing Christmas music with instruments of the late 17th century. This moment in time made our day and our Christmas. We talk about that and how simple yet fun and inspiring it was. Nothing came close yet. One time I got her a guitar and she got guitar lessons for a while. That was two gifts in one. If you ever read Chicken Soup for the Kids Christmas Soul version, it might give you some ideas. Christmas is more about a moment in time and a memory. It is not about gifts. Think back when you were a kid, what made your Christmas special. I remember more about the events that happened and things we did, than the toys. |
