British nuclear power station suffering an "unplanned outage" has categorically denied any link to the sophisticated Stuxnet worm.

One of two reactors at Heysham 1, owned by French energy giant EDF, was taken offline yesterday.

Parts of the site are run by Siemens S7 systems, prompting suggestions the sophisticated worm is to blame for the shutdown.

An EDF spokeswoman told The Register the suggestions amounted to "conspiracy theories".

"I can confirm that on Heysham 1 there is no Siemens S7 equipment in any safety-related applications," she said.

"There is absolutely no link between the cause of Heysham 1's trip yesterday and any 'cyber security' issues".

This is the THIRD inccident with Nuke power plan today

Dominion Virginia Power has notified federal authorities about the discovery of low levels of radioactive groundwater at the utility's North Anna nuclear power station in Louisa County. A recent groundwater monitoring sample point at the plant recorded a level of 16,500 picoCuries of tritium per liter, according to a report that Dominion filed Friday with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

just a wild guess but its the israeli bug they gave china and iran with their nuc plants. And its wound up in the usa. What a surprise. For some reason isreal doesn't care about the usa. But were still supposed to give them trillions. And give them every weapon they want.

yeah,i mean gotta be a coincidence right? The owners and managers of probably the most expensive and dangerous piece of equiment generating electricity that keeps up all factories and hospitals and not to mention, their own homes...sure...coincidence.

its disturbing how people in general didnt understand how the grid is weak. <to much shutdown like that can trigger a dimino effect.

Each time a power station of anykind goes down, the grid get a drop. other power plant have to increase production by 2-3% or more to balance.

At the end you have a whole power grid with installation running at 110% of there capacity.

actually, AC power as opposed to DC is an alternating current and is NOT stored except in small quantities and no where near the needs of a city. So, current is purchased by the distributors (your local elec. company) and sold by the generators of the power (Dominion or others like them).

Once produced, electricity must be inserted into the grid and delivered to the distributor or it is lost. The distributor simply taps into the system with a load factor and wham...lights on.

Nuclear power is desirable because it can be regulated to meet demand easily, insert more or less rods and more or less power, very easy. Hydro-electric power is also regulated thru intake valves so much the same.

But, once produced, it can not be put back and must be used or lost forever...run power around the grid long enough and it will dissapate to zero without more power behind it pushing thru the system.

Pull enough generating capacity off the grid and you get brownouts or blackouts...delivery prices adjust with those nasty line items and clauses in your bill...remember california years back...the generating bastards just cut the power off claiming needed cleaning or stuff...

one dead in blast at DuPont plant near Buffalo

– One mortal died and added was earnestly scraped as a hardware cell exploded at a DuPont being in the municipality of Tonawanda nearby Buffalo, New York, topical media said on Tuesday.

Those troubling incidents come on the heels of an electrical explosion at NRG's South Texas nuclear plant last week, and a Friday incident at Progress Energy's Shearon Harris plant in North Carolina that caused the plant to momentarily lose cooling to the reactor.

Add to this the Virginia inccident going on right now, with a media blackout about this.

Release: INCIDENT AT BRAIDWOOD NUCLEAR POWER STATION - BOTH REACTORS SHUT DOWN



HICAGO—Reports have come in from local residents living near the Braidwood nuclear power station that a steam release seems to be emanating from Exelon’s twin Braidwood nuclear reactors, 50 miles southwest of Chicago .
According to NRC website, both reactors are listed at zero power output.
Local residents report that around 2 a.m., a loud screaming noise started from the plant, followed by clouds of what seemed to be steam. Locals report that the clouds of steam still seem to be emanating from the plant, possibly in an area between the reactors and the turbine building. While the noise has lessened, it still persists.
Several years ago, a large steam jet exited the side of one of the Braidwood reactors, resulting in similar conditions – loud noise, as loud as a jet plane, and billows of steam.
Calls and e-mail to NRC Region III calling for clarification of the conditions at the reactor site have not yet been returned. (630)829-9663.
The Braidwood incident follows the heat-related power reduction and fish kill at the LaSalle reactors in August 13-14; and the shut down of Quad Cities 1 reactor on August 13th.
