User ID: 1139395 United States 10/28/2010 08:42 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The boundaries of knowledge in physics look set to be broken Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1144576soon with scientists around the globe locked in a multi- billion-dollar race to solve great mysteries. Their quest is to find the secrets of dark matter and the ’God particle’ - a sub-atomic particle that is fundamental to understanding the nature of matter, but so elusive that, physicists quip, it can only be compared to divinity. Guys in a hurry take shortcuts. Shortcuts lead to mistakes. Mistakes lead to accidents. Accidents lead to death and destruction. 7 Billion people on the planet! That's a BIG number! And I am one. |

They built this thing based on knowledge of the "laws of physics," and they predict and assess the possible level of danger to all of Earth's precious and unique lifeforms (including all of humanity) based on the "known laws of physics," BUT, they are expecting to prove that the "known laws of physics" are bogus and outdated AND they are even hoping for that outcome? Wow! That is some really interesting logic from the worlds greatest minds. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. How about you? |

Hell, the theory (which is bullshit) is that fire from an airplanes fuel brought down the WTC, so what kind of material would be able to hold such an intensely bullcrap degree of heat? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1143430I call on this one too...my first ever! It's funny to watch you guys argue about things you don't know anything about and call it bullshit. Anonymous Coward User ID: 619959 Canada 10/28/2010 09:30 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | thats hot Quoting: Anonymous Coward 750833Just to put hot in perspective.... "As you may know, our sun is a star. It appears larger than the stars we see at night because, compared with them, it is quite close. How powerful is it? At its core, the sun is about 27,000,000 degrees Fahrenheit [15,000,000°C]. If you could take a pinhead-sized piece of the sun’s core and put it here on the earth, you could not safely stand within 90 miles [140 km] of that tiny heat source!" [link to www.telegraph.co.uk] So if that's true for 15,000,000°C..... how far away would you have to stand if the temp is 4,000,000,000,000°C ? No wonder our little planet is attracting attention! |

Why would you think a quark has to sustain a level of energy and feed off it's surroundings? Wait, don't tell me, my head hurts enough reading the responses in this thread. Anonymous Coward User ID: 1136548 United States 10/28/2010 10:28 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | "Yes and the same principle is used to measure both." As you said we theoretically deduce the temperature of a hot object. We do not measure it. Again -- Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1125157. Like I said go read up [link to en.wikipedia.org] Do you think we sent actual instruments to the suns center to measure the temperature there? Of course not, we use the basic laws of physics to deduce the suns temperature. In this same way we can theoretically deduce the temperature of any hot object by measuring is radiative power output. |

Things break down at the quantum level. the space/time 'grid' has smallest units in planck lengths. really tiny, but discreet. this is quantum physics - it is real and observable. |
