Hey FUCKTARDS-NO ONE CARES ENOUGH ABOUT YOU TO GIVE A FUCK WHERE YOU LIVE. Its like the ants out your front door conspiring to be secretive from you! here's a hint-when giving anecdotal economic status reports-go ahead and give the locale of which you speak. its ok-you're just a loser anyway. btw-anyone that actually gave a fuck can find your location in under a minute anyway-why not just put in the post so you are actually contributing beyond worthless vagaries????????????????????????????

Hey -- CHECK YOUR MEDS!

what meds? i'm just saying when giving anecdotal reports, such as those in this thread, the value of said posts is increased exponetially when even general location is given. example if the person is posting from somalia-who gives a fuck. please tell me you get what i'm saying? everyone on this site thinks giving there location is gonna end them up on a list.

Wow..that sure wasn't what I got out of that...but O.K... I'd rather it be what you said.... hf

Re: Something I noticed while at the grocery store...
same thing happening here in Georgia, Dollar stores are increasing their food product isles, people buying carts full of items in there. People in the regular supermarkets walking around with 3-4 item in the cart. Everyone I know is complaing about the cost.

Thanks for checkin' in Georgia...:)

Here in SC...same deal...
Get this:Dollar General here now sells beer&Wine.
I wish I'd bought DG stock a few years ago.

After the screaming part, I have to say, the rest just kinda jumbled together.

I stopped buying meat at the grocery store about 3yrs ago. I buy all my meat in bulk at a local meat processing plant. The current cost of beef is just over $2/lbs hanging weight plus a small fee to cut and wrap.

A half cow runs me around $700 and will last me almost a year!

Here in Canada, I've noticed that grocery stores have stopped marking down the meat by 50%, now it's only a 30% discount. It's like they all got together and decided this. Strange.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1110808

What part of Canada are you in? I have seen the chicken prices go through the roof, but there are often really good deals on beef and pork. So much so that I have filled my freezer.

Re: Something I noticed while at the grocery store...
I had to go shopping yesterday...something I don't do often, because I hate to shop...LOL
While I was there I noticed something very telling about the 'state of affairs' people are in these days.

I've always shopped very thriftily, and used to be able to find great deals in the 'mark down bin' in the meat section.
There used to be awsome cuts of meat that I could get for half the price, bring them home and put them in the freezer for later.
With me living in a 'wealthy area' ...it was not unusual for me to find whoe legs of Lamb, or a nice standing rib roast in there...beautiful steaks and chops.

Not anymore.
The past couple of times I've been there...it has been like a 'fight' to try and even see what is left to pick over...so many people there looking thru it.
They aren't just taking the very nice cuts of meat...they are cleaning the sucker out!
I've never seen this happen in this area before.
I'm in an area where houses start at $500,000, and end up in the several million dollar mark.

When it starts showing up in areas like this...people slashing costs, and families 'cleaning out the mark down bin"...they are starting to hurt as much as 'the middle class' people are.
That dosen't bode well for our Economy .
These are the people that own the business' that hire other people to work for them.
Also professional types like Neuro Surgeons, top Attorney's, ect.
If these people fall hard like the middle class has...I don't think there is anything that can be done to pull the Country up out of this Depression that we've sunk into so deep.
Because these people are the last in line to fall, before the Giants do...they are sort of like 'mini giants', and they provide a lot of people with jobs, or jobs are supported by their spending .( like the lawn service people, the housekeepers, private schools, interior designers, furniture makers, ect.).

Anyone else notice something like this happening in their area lately?

Evidence of what you are saying:

"The Plight of American Manufacturing"
December 21, 2009

Since 2001, the country has lost 42,400 factories, including 36 percent of factories that employ more than 1,000 workers (which declined from 1,479 to 947), and 38 percent of factories that employ between 500 and 999 employees (from 3,198 to 1,972).

An additional 90,000 manufacturing companies are now at risk of going out of business.

Keep in mind that these statistics are 9 months old. The data now would BE EVEN WORSE.

much more at link...

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 919411

It took me a while to get to...but I finally did...;)
That's a great article, and yes, this is the kind of people that I'm speaking of.
They are having a very hard time now themselves, buying meat in the 'markdown bin" at their local Kroger store.

Something in this country has to change very, very soon, or all these people are gonna be wiped out.
If they fall, there is no one left...just Slaves and Kings

One more item to add to the excellent New Jersey post...

Our local Social Security Office now has an armed police officer in the lobby at all times. I went in to get my sons SS card replaced, and the place was PACKED, and during the 30 minute wait I heard THREE "raised voice" conversations taking place! Tensions are DEFINITELY building...

Do you think that the confrontations and the crowd was because they are starting to cut Social Security benefits to some people?
I haven't heard about that yet.
No one that I know has said anything to me about their benefits being changed....
Wonder who is getting cut first?

One argument stemmed from an older man and his ill wife that couldn't get money for hospital bills. The others I didn't catch the gist. But, a lady sitting next to me said, "You should go check out the foodstamp/social services department. Everyone there has a real bad case of "entitlement disease!" Re: Something I noticed while at the grocery store...
I used to work at Bunton Seed....hope you are keeping your collections/ extra's in the fridge!
Seeds stored in the fridge, will last much longer than if they are kept room temp.
Some seeds will last 5-6 years or more, if kept nice and cool, dry.
I store mine in a plastic coffee can, with one of those 'dessicant' things that come in bottles of pills, use it to keep them becoming too moist in the cold fridge.
In Jan. I run my own 'germination test'.
I use a wet paper towel, and count out 10 seeds , wrap the seeds in the towel, and put them in a zip lock baggie, flat.
You can see how many of the seeds sprout, easily...see how heavily you need to plant, determined by how many seeds germinate... ;)
( LOL..I always end up planting the sprouts from the germination tests, I haven't the heart to just destroy them, even if it is too early)

To add: Make sure that the seeds you save are NOT from hybrid plants, as they are regressive in quality, for instance, a seedling hybrid tomato might give you fruit you would not want to eat.
Definition of non-hybrid plant = species, or plants that reproduce identically to the parent plant.

It is true, they can revert back.
Heirloom, open pollinated are the best to grow and save.
Most of the time when the plants revert backwards from the hybrid...they lose the hybrid parts, go back to their ancestors....so you lose what was 'desirable' about the hybrid, like plant hardiness against disease.
The food won't be in-edible, just won't have the hybrid qualities anymore...it will go back to the original plants it was made out of to get the Hybrid.
So, if 1 plant was introduced for flavor, and another for disease resistance, you may very well end up with a delicious veggie/fruit, but it will not have the disease resistance of the other parent plant....or vice versa...hardy as Hell plant, that dosen't produce the 'best flavor' .
I figure if it comes to a survival situation, people aren't going to care much about those kinds of things.
They will be happy with whatever they can grow, and eat, that will keep them alive.

One other thing I have noticed about seeds here in the uk is that about 75% of the seeds are hybrid. It seems that the seed companies have realised that they can sell the non hybrid at a much higher price GRrrrrr.

But back to the shopping. I make sure that I pay cash. I dont know what can and cant be traced through credit cards but I dont risk it.

I am on a low income, but I budget a certain sum for each shop. Once I have got what i need for the week I scour the bogof (buy on get one free) shelves for extras for my food stores.

Very nice thread OP
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1112958

Thanks...:)

Yep...don't want people to be able to save seeds at home...want to force them to buy the Hybrids.
People that are having a difficult time will be drawn to the Hybrid seed, or those made sterile by them, because they are cheaper.
It's awful the way that THEY are doing people...it costs a small fortune to buy Organic, Heirloom Seeds these days.
I've notice this year that Cauliflower seeds were hard to come by.
They are normally very easy, just walk in any place like K-Mart, or Dollar Store and buy some.
They were hard to find this year, and last year too.

About the shopping. ...
I'm like you, I am a cash person, and don't use 'credit'...it's a little harder, and THEY are making it harder to be this way, but I'm still hangin' in there...THEY haven't whipped me yet! ;)
I'm not so much worried about being 'traced'...because I really don't do anything wrong.
It's just that it's MY MONEY and I don't feel the need to pay a Bank a fee every time I go to spend it somewhere...then keep track of my transactions.
Where I spend it is my business..none of theirs!
It's like having the ultimate 'nosey neighbor' looking over your finances, constantly!
I earned it, it's mine, what I do with it is my business, none of theirs.
I don't ask THEM about their personal spending, and don't force THEM to use my company to process all of their transactions, and then insist I be paid for it...fined , no less, if I don't, upon first request!
It's just such a messed up system!!! :P

I see it all the time here in Louisiana. Even before Katrina and BP, we were seeing elderly people under stress. Now that we've had a double hit, I am overwhelmed by the need I see.

Personallly, we don't go to the grocery store at all. We shop at the farmer's market for fresh fruit and veggies. They also sell milk, cheese, bread and eggs. We go to Sam's club about three times a year and stock up on beans, rice, paper products and staples.

We don't eat much meat but when we do, we buy it at a small local butcher shop.

I don't like shopping at big box stores if I can help it. But we do succumb to Sam's a few times a year. Otherwise we stay away from any processed food. Trying not to get cancer although I'll probably get it anyway. Everyone here does.

Hang in there. The economy is going to get a lot worse.

Wow...thanks for the expansion of info.
I can believe it about Hospital bills...I've had my own war with hospitals ...:P
So, it sounds like there are a lot of peeps getting ready to be cut off Food Stamps.
That's not good.... :(
The first to lose benefits are the ones that have been on it the longest...and we all know that finding a decent job has been like trying to find a needle in a haystack...:(
People like my friend I spoke of earlier... that have only been surviving because their family has been providing additional support to them...that have been on Food Stamps for a year now, or better.
Gonna leave a lot of hungry people out there... :(
I would not say it won't be enough to ignite a Rebellion...because people really are getting to "Desperate" these days.
People can only be pushed so far.
Look at what's happening in Greece....could easily happen here too.
Esp. since these 'last rung' people are feeling it hard too..they know if they go down, that none of us may ever make it back on our feet again.

I live in Northern Utah and notice this issue as well when I go to the store. More and more people start going to discount grocery stores because they can barely afford eat. And these stores are discussing, even to look at. Unemployment is really bad as well here. Thousands are without jobs and receiving unemployment benefits to try and feed their family's. But this problem isn't localized it seems to be worldwide. Is there still one country that well off these days?

It sounds like you and your family are coping well...nice to hear.. :)
Many down there , I worry so much about you guys!
You all sure have had the Double Whammy!
Makes my heart hurt to think about whats going on there these days.
I hope you don't get cancer...I know it's some nasty stuff. My second husband had Leukemia, from being exposed to Petrolium Products.
I pray for you all, almost every day, and that's no lie.

Personally, I'm fine...it's what I'm seeing happening to others around me that has me so concerned, so many alarm bells ringing in my head.
Here the past year, I've had many talks , speaking to others about how I sometimes feel guilty, because I'm so 'safe', and so many others are having such a hard time.
It just dosen't seem fair.
I know I could easily be where they are today too...only, Creator guiding my life, has made the differance.

Guess they can't downsize fast enough. Even if they want to sell their homes, only a select few can even afford to buy. So they are cutting where they can and food is always the number one thing to cut. That can be done right away.

No one comments about the fact that retailers don't offer as many items On-Sale, or just happen to raise prices during the first couple weeks of the month?

Start looking and see it for what it is: profiteering off the social-dole.

Not like the States or Federales will negotiate deals with those who accept public assistance in course of trade.

Hell, they negotiate PPO deals with doctors, why aren't our tax dollars getting a discount?

You Know Why. Same reason the democrats pulled $12 Billion from FoodStamp funding to make those funds available to States who need help paying teacher salaries....

The Fed Govt is just a fount of money that TPTB are looting and putting on the Taxpayers back...

FoodStamp recipients ought not to incur sales tax, and ought to get a 20% discount so WE The Taxpayers don't have to fund as much $$. Just like every other deal in life, the one funding the greatest amount of business to a vendor should get the best prices.

Fucking Retailers don't care about being competitive; they don't have to. 41,000,000 now on Food Stamps... They can make their money off the Stamp Buyers, and also know they don't have to supply top quality goods.

Anyway, you ought to wise up and see how you are being fleeced at every turn. Government is aiding the high food prices. If it negotiated a "Food Stamp Discount" taxpayers would be better served as would the needy; and prices would be kept low for all...

Oh yea living in million dollar homes and their hurting....excuse me while I puke!

Guess they can't downsize fast enough. Even if they want to sell their homes, only a select few can even afford to buy. So they are cutting where they can and food is always the number one thing to cut. That can be done right away.

EXACTLY!!!!!!!
Hit the nail on the head with it!
There are houses on my road, that have been sitting empty for the past 3 years....because the people that own them, cannot afford to just' give them away' on today's market.
The buyers who can qualify for the type of Loan needed, just aren't out there.
The Banks have made the credit requirements so high, that to be able to purchase 1 of the homes, the buyer needs to have over 50% in cash before they will consider a loan on the rest.
And we didn't 'suffer' during the 'housing bubble', our area has remained pretty stable, with not too many losing their homes.
It isn't like some of the stuff I've seen happening out west.
There just simply isn't any way to sell their several million dollar properties these days...no one out there risking it , and willing to buy them.

Glad to hear about expensive meat... it'll dissuade you from eating it, and getting all that nasty karma. LOL

Here in British Columbia, I had a little kid at my door the other night, fund-raising. No, it wasn't chocolate bars for a school trip this time... he said his school needed to hire more teachers, but couldn't afford it. So the kids were out with cans, collecting.

Here in Canada, I've noticed that grocery stores have stopped marking down the meat by 50%, now it's only a 30% discount. It's like they all got together and decided this. Strange.

Re: Something I noticed while at the grocery store...
This is starting to trickle "up" already. I'm in the MidSouth. I always go to the movies on opening weekends and they aren't crowded anymore. Used to be that you had to get there 30 minutes early to get a decent seat. Now you can show up when you want. You're gonna be able to sit wherever you want. The last movie I went too may have had 20 other people there on the first Saturday of a kids movie. Look at Nicholas Cage, he just had a house foreclosed on or something. The elite are starting to feel the pinch as bad as everyone else. Once more and more of them start going down the effects will come quicker and harder. Their failures will hurt banks, brokerage firms, department stores, etc a lot harder than if I went belly up.

Economy still seems okay in Arkansas for now. At least the high end restaurants are doing okay. I do buisness with them everyday.

Re: Something I noticed while at the grocery store...
what I find strange here in the UK is that when I shop at a large supermarket, poor people buy the most expensive toilet paper? (4 rolls of luxury toilet paper for £2.50 vs the cheap toilet paper for 44 pence)

they tend to care more about their pets than themselves when it comes to food .... they buy the most expensive dog/cat food, yet buy the cheapeat bread/cheese/mince and no-name/supermarket branded tinned foods for themselves?

Re: Something I noticed while at the grocery store...
I haven't noticed this so much at the local store where I regularly shop [since it's a smaller, non-chain grocery where I know the owners]. HOWEVER: the last time I was shopping at ALDI'S [where I've been a customer for over 15 years] I noticed a subtle shift in their customer base. No longer peopled by shoppers in simple housedresses and bluejeans their clientele now numbers quite a few sporting trendy designer duds and a I'm-richer-than-you-are attitude as they paw the same discounted merchandise as I.

Perhaps they think they've "discovered" something the rest of us knew all along... that a spiffy label on any product doesn't necessarily mean it's better or worth a higher price?

ALDI'S has consistently offered quality food items [including an amazing array of European imports] for a lower price since those two German brothers founded it decades ago. This change in people's economic status only levels the playing field a little bit more, and maybe - just maybe, those "haves" will start to understand what it's like to be a "have-not."

Two five-star, and one four-star chef in Mountain Home, Arkansas. Sure, they hail from Chicago/Cali....but they cook HERE now. One chef even raises his own beef, BillyBeef, and serves great steaks, phillies, and burgers all from his own organic fed herd. But, SHHHHHH! Keep up the stereotypical comments about Arkansas...we LIKE IT rural!

P.S. one out of six people in Baxter county, AR, pop. 38,000, are millionaires...check the stats.
