I think it is very naive to believe that another technological jump is going to fix us. We are broken because we cannot accept death. Our blind, panic-filled attempts to escape death have lead us to this point. If we are given more power right now, we will simply consume and consume until this planet is completely raped. Then we will go do it to another planet...and another...and another. No, we cannot be given power until we deal with our issues as individuals and as a species.
