What is democracy, an election every 3-4 years?

real representation , IMO, as opposed to whatever form of "government" would be to enable everyone to participate in decision making on issues that affect them(internet would be useful for this) and to have a say in debate about other issues that dont affect them.
again IMO. I know there are for and against issues, but it seems fair to me.

Would only the unemployed vote as they were at home and had the time to check that day´s list of voting items?



The regular voting cycle works pretty well, by allowing us to vote for who we think might do a good job, and then letting them get on with it.

The worst problem is that elections become more of a popularity contest, and that politicians are not held to what they promised prior to the election.

I think this is what democracy means in the US, your chance to vote or not to for some millionaire representative every term, who once they are in, will vote any way but the right way(when it comes to legislation) unless it is pork barreling or party poltical and the party whips are out and about.
I know this is simplistic, but it fits the case.

Update - Tabulation results appear odd for July 26 election

Jim March, a member of the Black Box Voting board of directors, was arrested Tuesday evening for trying to observe the Diebold central tabulator (vote tallying machine) as the votes were being counted in San Diego´s mayoral election (July 26).

According to Jim Hamilton, an elections integrity advocate from San Diego, he and March visited the office of the registrar of elections earlier in the day. During this visit, March made two requests, which were refused by Mikel Haas, the San Diego Registrar of elections.

1) March asked that the central tabulator, the computer that tallies up the votes from all the precincts, be positioned so that citizens could observe it. According to Hamilton, this would have required simply moving a table a few feet.

2) March also asked for a copy of the ".gbf" files -- the vote tally files collected during the course of tabulation – to be provided for examination after the election.

During the tallying of the election, the Diebold computer was positioned too far away for citizens to read the screen. Citizens could not watch error messages, or even perceive significant anomalies or malfunctions.

Unable to see the screen, March went into the office where the tabulator was housed. Two deputies followed him and escorted him out.

According to Hamilton: "He was not belligerent, not at all. After he went inside the tabulator room he came [was escorted] out and he said learly ´I’m not resisting.´ They handcuffed
him, took him out of the building. They put him in a squad car. They’re going to take him to the police station, book him and take him to jail," said Hamilton. "He’s getting charged with a felony, ´interfering with an election official.´"

March´s actions are the culmination of two years of increasing frustration with the refusal of election officials to respond to security deficiencies in the voting machines. The software that tallies the votes in San Diego is made by Diebold Election Systems, a company that has already paid the state of California $2.8 million for making false claims, due to a lawsuit filed by March and Black Box Voting founder Bev Harris.

On July 4, a report was released by European computer security expert Harri Hursti, revealing that the Diebold voting system contains profound architectural flaws. "It is open for business," says Hursti, who demonstrated the flaws on Leon County, Florida Diebold machines. He penetrated the voting system in less than five minutes, manipulating vote reports in a way that was undetectable.

Despite the critical security alert issued by Hursti, San Diego County sent 713 voting machines home with poll workers, increasing the risk that the "memory cards" housed in the machines could be hacked, and removing the argument that "inside access" was carefully
safeguarded.

The arrest of Jim March underlines a fundamental problem facing Americans today as, increasingly, they lose the ability to monitor, verify, or watch any part of the counting process.

The San Diego registrar of elections knew of the security flaws in the voting system. Diebold has never denied the vulnerability identified in Hursti´s report, found at [link to www.blackboxvoting.org]

Despite knowledge of the increased risks, Haas made the decision to create additional vulnerability by sending the machines home with hundreds of poll workers.

While San Diego officials will no doubt point to a small seal on the compartment housing the memory card (the component exploited in Hursti’s study), Black Box Voting has interviewed a former San Diego poll worker, who reported that all that is necessary to dislodge and then reaffix the seal is a small pair of pliers.

IN A NUTSHELL:

- The machines have been demonstrated to be vulnerable to undetected tampering
- The San Diego registrar of voters chose not to take appropriate precautions
- The main tally machine was placed in a location that was impossible for citizens to observe
- Many voting integrity advocates have come to believe that voting machine reform now rivals the urgency of the Civil Rights movement in the 1960s.

Jim March acted on those beliefs.

I have very little hope for this nation. The bulk of the populace is still clueless as to the Executive Orders, Acts, and partnership bureaucracy system that have turned our Constitutional Republic into a new banana republic. The ongoing ignorance of the masses is beyond all comprehension and reason.

The Southwestern U.S and the West Coast have become a foreign and illegal nation. Every Constitutional right is under perpetrated and highly orchestrated attack, and still the masses watch TV, sports, drink beer, and do and say nothing. Most don’t even know that anything has changed. And why is that? Because public education has changed American people into silent, sacrilegious, non-reading, pleasure-seeking, group-thinking morons – that’s why.

I remember reading a study about 30 years ago on the educational effects of computers coupled with television. The study concluded that the TV-computer combo, and the over stimulation of visual senses, was detrimental to reading and writing skills. Gee, do ya think?? However, the public school system was to be the saving grace. Pour more money into the public schools, incorporate computer technology into classrooms, and American schools could guarantee the best public education in the world. And for the past 30+ years, American schools have choked on their promises to deliver.

Today, illiteracy is commonplace. The first two years of college repeat high school basics, and the last 2 years teach group dynamics and Socialist theory. In today’s world, a four-year, $100,000.00 college degree is as useless as a high school diploma. To even think of getting a job, people are forced into master degree programs, which are also rapidly becoming useless in American society. In today’s America, if you want a good job with good pay, you need to spend about $200,000.00 on higher education and obtain a doctoral degree in the sciences. Then, your job opportunities with the government will be abounding.

So, let’s get this straight once and for all – Socialism requires ignorance in mass numbers. Intelligent, well-read people do not choose to be lowly paid employees who are subservient to multi-millionaires and their purchased politicians. Intelligent people do not desire to be socially and culturally controlled by dictatorial-governmental elites. Knock-knock, America - is anyone home??

The U.S. citizenry has been incrementally dumbed down by the Federal government, the NEA, the AFT, and idiot teachers who are still largely unaware of the Socialist curriculums and agendas imposed in their classrooms. I have talked to at least 50 teachers who were totally unaware of the New Freedom Initiative on Mental Health and TMAP, Goals 2000, Outcome-Based Education, Agenda 21, or social re-engineering educational strategies that enforce global citizenship. Our teachers are clueless. It is, therefore, guaranteed that our children are educational victims of government, unions, and ignorance.

Equally, all American citizens under the age of 40 are educationally victimized, which is why they, in mass, are unaware of the dismantling of their nation. They can’t see it, they don’t believe it, and they are lost – literally lost – in televised propaganda and social group manipulations. In mass, they are dumbed down Socialist worker bees and permanently indebted to the elite and their corporations. They don’t make waves. They don’t make noise. They just keep making high interest payments to creditors. They sense no responsibility to their nation – only to creditors. What a perfect scenario for the corporate elite, and what a clever educational system they imposed to create the perfect non-thinking and debt-ridden slave.

This August, America’s children will return to the public schools. They will be taught about Gaia, the invented religion of the globalists. They will be educated in consensus-style groups. Students will be profiled using quizzes and tests, assessment and proficiency exams, and they will be force-taught global government citizenship. American history will be twisted to reveal the founding principles as ineffective, and they will be taught that the Constitution is irrelevant in today’s world.

American children will be taught to accept homosexuality, youth sex, and they will be taught to disregard parental authority and traditional religious doctrines. They will be prepared for compulsory military service and compulsory volunteerism (as in field trips to nursing homes). Math and reading skills will be lowered, and “advocates” will speak to your children behind closed doors. These advocates will administer “questionnaires” to seek out and drug students who are seemingly non-compliant with globalist Socialist mindsets. Medicaid dollars will be funneled to schools who force-deliver children into the hands of the pharmaceutical industry, thanks to our New Freedom Initiative and “advocates.”

Also keep in mind the first attempt to RFID American school children. The outcry from parents was heard, but also keep in mind that RFID is being force-fed to the public as a security device. Let a kidnapping or a “terrorist” act occur in an American school, and I suggest to you that RFID will reappear in or upon our children under the guise of proper parenthood governmental strategies.

The condition of the American public school system, which has been completely overtaken by the Federal government, the NEA and AFT Socialists, is the last hope for the damaged masses to see the big picture. If parental instincts still function to any degree, American parents will not allow their children to step foot in any public school. Any parent who allows their children to be profiled, manipulated, incrementally dumbed down, and set up to be U.N. soldiers is a traitor to this nation, an idiot, and an unconscionable parent. If you can’t stand up for and protect your children, it is clear why you have refused to stand up for your Constitutional rights. Equally, any American citizen who votes for any public school levy is a Socialist stooge and an enemy of America’s future.

If you are not homeschooling your children in the 2005-2006 school year, then you are no parent, nor should you be. If you refuse to protect your children from Socialist-Communist indoctrination, then you are not a true citizen of this nation. If you use your employment as the excuse to send your beloved children into governmental indoctrination centers, you will get what you deserve when your children stand against you.

America is a republic - not a democracy!

Not only did our Founding Fathers establish a republic, they greatly feared democracy. James Madison, known as the father of the U.S. Constitution, wrote in "Essay #10" of The Federalist Papers: "... democracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention; have ever been found incompatible with personal security or the rights of property; and have in general been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their deaths."

Although such an attitude will surprise most Americans, it is accurate.

The United States Constitution does not contain the word democracy. It does "guarantee to every State in this Union a republican form of government...." Also, when we recite the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag, we say, "to the Republic for which it stands," and not "to the Democracy."

The difference between a republic and a democracy was once widely understood in America. The U.S. War Department (superseded by the Department of Defense) taught that difference in a training manual (No. 2000-25) published on November 30, 1928. This official U.S. government document, used at the time for the training of American military personnel, said of democracy:

A government of the masses.

Authority derived through mass meeting or any other form of ´direct´ expression.

Results in mobocracy.

Attitude toward property is communistic - negating property rights.

Attitude toward law is that the will of the majority shall regulate, whether it be based upon deliberation

or governed by passion, prejudice, and impulse, without restraint or regard to consequences.

Results in demogogism, license, agitation, discontent, anarchy."

It went on to state: "Our Constitutional fathers, familiar with the strength and weakness of both autocracy and democracy, with fixed principles definitely in mind, defined a representative republican form of government. To run for office today is big business. The ad- verage Joe would need very deep pockets and many friends in high places with deep pockets to make a difference. The trouble is the P.T.B like the way the system is, and they will only allow sheople with "connections" to ever get "elected". Sorry 741, only in your warped dreams. I live in the most powerful democracy in the world, where we, the voice of the people, elect our leaders. This country is based on the constitution, which grants all citizens inalienable rights. The right to speak your mind, to disagree with your government, to pursue happiness, to vote, to run for office. Well, Oz has just changed parties, but the horse race is still the same, when it boils down to bureaucracies,msn social stultification and on and on, so its not so much a change as a fresh coat of paint(so the cracks hopefully don't show through before the end of the first 4 years).

In essence elections every 3 or 4 year (or even one. But that would start problems at that time interval) fulfills the same function as two weeks amongst qtards. It has a lot to do with forgetory not just memory
