According to your link it is predicted to have 140mph, landfall Sat 8am and center of storm 37 miles north of Veracruz, a city of a million plus. This NW tracking storm took an unpredicted turn west...

That "unpredicted NW turn" is what i'd expect to see of any strengthening Hurricane, especially one thats gone from a CAT1 to almost CAT4 literally overnight.
NHC will be keeping a VERY close eye on the path of this one.

For the record. A CAT4 with *sustained* winds of 140mph will practically level almost every building that the Eyewall region crosses. Combined the fact Models are showing significant flash-flooding further inland to sweep through the areas initially hit by Karl upon landfall, it'll be a double hit of storm AND flood damage.

I just hope those in the path are packing there bags and getting the hell out of there pronto. They've got no less than 12 hours before the first of the 75mph winds start hitting, from there it only gets worse.

That will put Veracruz on the weak side of the storm still, with little to no storm surge there if it follows that path.

It has now changed course again, WSW, and is heading straight for Veracruz (the eye expected to reach the city in an hour or so). It seems to have been downgraded to a Cat 3. According to the link the strongest inner circle (75 to 120mph) has just hit the city. The radio about 2 hours ago announced evacuation of the area. Obviously they have been caught off guard by the storm's constantly changing course,,, Of course the holiday independence week may be making coordination that much more difficult. We have a friend in Veracruz, we'll try to phone her....

It isnt expected to go north at all, and has dissipated to Cat2 tracking WSW into the interior of central Mexico.
