I'm not advocating anything. Just asking some pointed questions about potential scenarios, and I'd love to hear some answers from survivalists.

Make sure the feds don't find you. But definitely take advantage of your second amendment rights.

Don't buy an expensive cow. Get several goats and if one dies you're still good. Same with chickens. Don't get expensive rare breeds but get several breeds that can live together.

If you need to barter don't depend on zuchinis get some silver coins.

I know some people who actually had glasses made to perscriptions that were a good guess for when they got older. Otherwise make sure you have several pairs of glasses in case any break.

Don't depend on a tractor. People used plows and horses and ox for centuries.

Second: The cow was just for illustrative purposes: could be a goat, horse, or your WIFE, take your choice; it's MOOT.

I would have suggested having an extra identical tractor on hand, to skeletonize for spare parts. Horse would be good for plowing and also transportation; oxen would be strong but have limited use.

As for the crops, well probably not much one could do there except MAYBE erecting some kind of wire structure (chicken wire?) over and around it, then in case of airborne pollutant covering the wire frame with something to protect the plants. May not work, but it would be better than nothing...

Extra glasses, yes, but foreseeing your Rx at a later date seems iffy.

Silver coins would be better than Au, I would imagine. Still doesn't address the EFT (electronic fund transfer) question though.

Reread my post. I haven't bought any property yet. I'm asking these people who HAVE how they intend to handle -- or what preps they have made to prevent -- these potential scenarios.

Ok, so I thought about just letting your post go, but decided to throw my hat into the ring and honestly address your questions and scenarios:

You are assuming that ‘life savings’ are involved. In many areas, One can successfully minimize one’s public footprint in a number of ways without going into the piggy bank totally. I personally do not believe a person or people can stay completely ‘off the grid’ without a complete nomadic lifestyle. It’s far too difficult to be a blank page for long. If you are forced to work, you better take public transportation, or drive LPC’s (shoes= “Leather Personnel Carriers”) because if you operate a vehicle without a license or insurance its only a matter of time before you get popped…unless you are a mexican living virtually anywhere but Arizona that is. Gardening and trade goods are a long standing, viable way of life for many people around the world. I assume you have at least seen a farmers market or other famers co-op store? Barter works. It has for centuries and will still.

That can happen to anyone, anyplace and at any time. If you choose to ‘live’ your life having had already given up, that’s your decision. Most people look at the ‘what-ifs’ and make the best of existing issues. Being a prepared American does not mean planning for EVERY scenario. It simply means that you have completed a risk assessment of your lives, geographical location, training and skill sets, and have decided that living as close to ‘off the grid’ as one is able fits your lifestyle, capabilities and goals. 1) You make an informed decision if there are any alternatives, or you slaughter the cow and get another.
2) You may be surprised what can be bartered to large animal vets. I live by one of the world’s best Universities for animals (UC Davis) and I am constantly amazed by the stories I receive.
3) Someone wouldn’t get that type of cow in this scenario. You shouldn’t ‘stack the deck’ in an effort to once again mock a person that has made the strong, difficult decision to live that type of lifestyle.
4) Again, livestock is bartered for all the time, in many, many countries.

Your tractor, which is a necessity for your food operation, has broken down. 1) Yes, you can barter for frames. In many locations, used glasses are available that have been donated by others.
2) You don’t know much about tractors and farm implements, do you? Tractors have had few changes for decades, and unless you use a lambo to plow, a John Deer part now is basically the same one from twenty years ago. No one I know that is “off the grid” uses brand new, top of the line equipment that would take a “crackerjack mechanic’ to maintain.
3) Are they ‘off the grid’ or living in the ‘cashless society’ of some post-apocalyptic chaos? You can’t have it both ways. If it were me? I would sell surplus milk and eggs, produce and canned goods. Home made crafts as well as what ever it took to have back-up funds. It doesn’t require a bank account. You should really look a bit further into American History, specifically the great depression. My people grew up during that time, did fine and did so without city power, water, sewers and food stores. Again, stick with a scenario…don’t change the basis of your questions to better slam the answers.

Using Edward and Elaine Brown as an example is foolish. He had a background of assult charges, and it was their ‘open door’ policy that ultimately got them popped by Marshals. They were far too public, and had made as many friends as enemies. There are many and much better examples of people that have kept to themselves, and out from under the scrutiny of big-brother for many years.

Again, I don’t believe that it is possible to live completely anonomous for long in this land, in this day and age. I do however, believe that one can lessen the footprint, and therefore SOME of modern life’s complications by being self sufficient…being prepared and learning specific skills.

Ultimately, I think your post is an attempt to be a smug, know-it-all.

I answer this question on my talk show, explaining how to get out of the system, stay out of the system, and stay safe from the feds, so you don't have to live in fear that self-sufficiency will make you a target.

Cooperation and hard work are the key.

When chaos strikes, the feds will all be busy in the cities dealing with riots and mass chaos. Why would you live in fear of the unknown, anyway? Why would fears of what *might* happen, and has only happened to a few people out of a few hundred million, stop you?

A "survivalist" is one who knows how to and is prepared (mentally and often physically) to survive no matter what the circumstance.

A real "Survivalist" doesn't need any of the things the O.P. mentioned. They can just walk in to the deep woods with a handful of tools and live.

Well for starters most survivalist are not bunker types.Your neighbor might even be one.I would probably fall into the category you consider "survivalist".I work at Eli Lillys(the pharmaceutical company).I do have stores of most things.We grow a substantial part of our own food.I do not really consider it abnormal any more,more like a reversal.The trend in our society has been toward consumerism and away from self reliance.Everything we have done in our house is a reversal of that.Talk to your grandparents or great grandparents.Things like canning food where considered wise planning,and also save a substantial amount of money.
How can having a plan for unforeseen events be a bad thing?You have car insurance in case you get in a wreck,but if the grocery store is out of food for a week due to some thing beyond your control?What if your house burned to the ground in the middle of the night,and you managed to get out what do you have?Me I have everything I would need for three days.I also have a portable drive with every legal form I need,pictures for the insurance company,id,and even some cash.Twenty minutes after the fire was out I would be sitting in a nice hotel talking with my insurance agent putting my life back together.I would not even miss a day of work.An event like that would throw most peoples life into chaos.Being a survivalist(I prefer prep-per)is about how to preserve your wealth and life style during and after an unfortunate event be it natural or man made.The idea a survivalist is a guy sitting in a bunker waiting until the shtf or the end of the world is the spoon feed media crap,not the reality.In reality a prep-per/survivalist is just someone who is prepared for all life can throw at them,while maintaining a comfortable life style.

Being prepared does not mean you live in a bunker with your cow or that you are waiting for the shit to hit the fan.
