I lost my best friend in the USA today
I came to the USA just before "9 and 11" June 2001. A friend I worked with told me he had a bulldog he was going to have to take to the pound because he was moving into an apartment that did not allow pets. I told him I had just rented a big old house and the dog would probably love the backyard. He certainly kept my back lawn fertilized. Over the years we went to the beach together. I live near Lake Washington but we went to the coast when we got the chance. I got him a long lead and would go bike riding all over Seattle. I would leave him tied to my bike while I shopped in Pike Place Market. Anybody try to steal my bike would have to deal with him. Nobody ever did. Last week I looked at motorcycles and decided not to get one since there was no good place for him to ride.
The last couple of weeks I noticed he did not seem to feel so chipper. Early this morning he was hacking real bad and seemed to have trouble breathing. I took him in to "Doggy Doctor" Vet looked him over and gave me the news.
CANCER!It was in his liver and he had probably two weeks to live. And they would be a painful two weeks.
So the good Doctor did the humane thing.
I drove home with his collar sitting in his place on the front seat.
Your unban request was denied.

It's harder to part with a dog that provides unconditional, loyalty than it is with most humans.
Calling an illegal alien an undocumented alien is like calling a drug dealer an unlicensed pharmacist.

they're saying "Kenyansian Economics". Grass Huts for everyone!

I'm so sorry. Pets can be such a joy in our lives -- I sometimes wish they had longer lives -- those big dogs are such good buddies that 12 or 14 years isn't sufficient. How old was your pal?

Sorry for your loss, Hans.

I believe the loss of a good friend hits you harder than anyone can imagine, whether they are two legged or four legged.

He fulfilled his purpose in life, you knew you were loved, and I'm sure he was loved in return.

Re: I lost my best friend in the USA today
Making the choice to have a pet put down is one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. I had a dog that I loved for years, but he was a stray that showed up to my door step with heart worms. I nursed him back to health with the appropriate treatments and he spent at least 10 good years with me. What eventually got him was a heart murmur and holes caused by the heart worm infection I found him with. The day I was going to put him to sleep I came home at lunch to let him out and he spent a moment enjoying the sun and breeze. His favorite thing to do. When I got back from work at 5 I was going to bring him to the vet, but he had already passed away. RIP my best friend. Now you've got me crying about him all over again.

I know this is cheesy shit, but it made me feel better when the vet gave it to me when I had my dog CREMATED....

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Re: I lost my best friend in the USA today
Hey Hans,

Anyone who's ever lost a beloved pet knows the depth of the pain and loss you are feeling. I'm so sorry you are going thru this. It is natures way of helping us to really "let go" and let our beloved companion move on. Even the bible says that animals have souls. They are not the same as human souls but they do have souls and souls are immortal. There is always the probability that you will see him again, healthy, and continuing on forever, but with all his memories of you in tact and never suffering an illness again. That's what heaven is supposed to be like - and more!

I could not imagine heaven without my pets that I have loved so long and so deeply over the years. I know it's a bit religious, but religion is a good thing especially in times of loss and grieving.

When you are ready in a few weeks or months, another "dog person" or "cat person" or whatever will come into your life. The door will open when you are ready and need to love again. Be open to them. You will not replace the pet your lost. But you will have someone new to love and to love you again. These animals give so much more than we do, but I know they take the memories of their loving owners with them when they pass onward, just as we will take the memory of them with us when our time on earth is over.

Hang in there... I feel for you.

Another animal loving A/C...

I am so sorry for your loss.

Someone here mentioned and it is true that these dogs should have a longer life. It is too short a time to have unconditional true love and companionship.

I am so sorry Hans....I can relate to the pain you feel.

I had to put our female cat, China, down 2 weeks ago due to kidney failure....that makes 4 cats put down in the last 3 years. hf

so very sorry for you and your loss... sometimes i wonder how dogs, that are such wonderful and lovinf creatures only live for 10-16 years on average, but humans that are foul and loathesome get to live for over 100 years in some cases.

dogs show such unconditional love and i am sorry for your loss. i know what you are going through.

I've been there, OP. Trust me, today was the best scenario that could have happened.

With time you will heal and another precious animal will be welcomed into your life and though it will never take the place in your heart that belongs to the one that just passed, a new place will develop in your heart... one that now may seems so very unlikely.
