Multiple or Split Personalities?
I have a good friend who has certain/defined morals and and Character but at times he seems to step out of who he is and does the complete opposite.

Recently I was with him and something happened that sent him into an outrage. At first I thought he was going to kick some serious ass. Then all of a sudden his complete manner changed and he did the complete opposite and joined the person he was mad at and did some things completely out of character for him. It was like another person and it happened right in front of me.

Later I asked him about it and he remembered being mad but not what happened after that. I suspect the guy has a multiple personality but he dismisses it right out of hand and does not believe he did what I say he did when he got mad.

My question is if there is a way he can look into his own mind and understand that he may have a split personality. Or if that is not an option then is there a way I can be sure he does?

Re: Multiple or Split Personalities?
You can wear many masks, each with its own 'persona'. In fact, we do it all the time depending on the 'role' we're filling.

The key is to be AWARE that you do this.

Those that aren't aware are those that are the most heavily programmed and dangerous to themselves and others. They also make the best 'assets' who can be stimulated to do almost anything.

Your friend displayed a lack of memory with respect to reacting to whatever stimulated anger in him. This is something he will have to work on. Not sure if this qualifies as someone with a split or multiple personality 'disorder' (unaware) so much as being out of touch with what stimulates his emotional self and his struggles to control his responses.

Re: Multiple or Split Personalities?
Multiple personalities are usually more well defined than just the output to a particular nasty day.

Most cases the alternate personality(s) are child like, breaking off at a much earlier time (3, 14, etc years of age). Those alternate personalities are incapable of 'growing up', maturing, becoming more than their fractured selves.

They are not mere changes in attitude, they are completely different in posture, tone of voice, word usage and various other things that to many untrained eyes it is clear you are dealing with 'another person'.
