Steel Eating Bacteria possibly in the Gulf?
"A leading scientific journal has warned of bacteria growing in
bilge water that can eat through the steel hull of a ship in a
matter of months.
Aerobic bacteria use up all the oxygen in the bilge water. This
results in an ideal environment for anaerobic sulphate-reducing
bacteria (SRBs) such as “desulfovibrio desulfuricans”. These
bugs convert the sulphates in seawater into corrosive sulphides
that attack metal.
