Should we Release Genetically Engineered Mosquitoes into the Environment?
Scientists in the US have managed to genetically engineer a malaria-resistant mosquito. The tremendous event has been hailed as the first of its kind and a breakthrough in the scientific community, but is all the speculation true? Is it a good idea to introduce these genetically engineered mosquitoes into the environment? Now, your first impression is probably yes because scientist claim the mosquitoes could help eliminate malaria throughout the world. Why wouldn't you want to stand for such a cause? This is the type of heated rhetoric used during such a debate. Well, in this particular instance, only the good news has been reported as far as I have witnessed. Every story related to the creation of the genetically engineered mosquito is shed in a positive light. News columnist and scientist all over the world have hailed the find as a cure for malaria; currently bloggers and writers continue to do the same, yet no one has mentioned the possibility of negative side effects/scenarios.

This is ridiculus! Now I'm finding out they want to replace all the natural salmon with some genetically modified salmon made of 50 some different fish. WoW. wtf

I have to say no in this instance.

Many decades ago, the screwfly was a horrble pest to livestock, especially sheep. When the manure would become immpacted on their fatty tails, the screwfly wuld lay its eggs on the nasty mess and the maggots would live in the feces.

The problem was, they wouldn't stop at the dirtbombs on their butts but would eat into the skin and flesh of the sheep, crippling and often killing them from infection.

Scientists raised the screwfly in laboratories, raised no females but all males which they sterilized with radiation. They dumped out millions of flies over problem areas and the screwfly became eradicated in the US.

Now they are not just sterilizing with radiation, they want to pollute the genome and its not a wise idea at all.

I agree. Mosquitos were put here for a purpose, I'm guessing it's highly unwise to eradicate them and introduce a genetically modified foreign insect.

We might have to if corexit/oil is killing them off!

What i think is crazy is that they want to make the genetically modified mosquito resistant to a toxin they can kill the natural mosquitoes with. So, create GE mosquitoes which can handle toxins, then kill the naturals with the toxins by dumping the toxins all over the environment.

They will be resistant to malaria, which will find away to mutate into something else, much stronger and more horrible than anything we can imagine!

Idiot evolutionist tard mad "scientists" playing god, utterly failing.

This will an EPIC FAIL.
These mosquitos will probably spread something much worse than malaria.
Like Ebola or something like that.

Killer bees were imported to Brazil from Africa. They produced more honey than European honeybees but their tendency for agression and stinging things to death didn't allow for just replacing one for the other.

Some smart folks in South America got the clever idea of crossing the two species to hybridize. An ignorant worker left the little door that allows queens to leave nests.

Out she goes, produces a few thousand offspring, more queens and drones, and off they go until they spread far and wide.

See what trouble we cause with just simple stupidity? Imagine what we can do with genetic abominations?
