should a near death experience give you enlightenment

Had a girlfriend that many years ago had a near death experience.

She watched the Doctors trying to save her from a ceiling corner of the Emergency Room, looking down on her own lifeless body as they and the nurses worked frantically.

She saw the tunnel ... and refused to pass through it. She described it as white and beautiful but chose to try to fight to live for her three beautiful daughters even though she "knew" that was the more difficult route.

Since that experience many years ago she has always been a caring giving person, caring and giving in a way that few women who have been blessed with the knock dead gorgeous looks she had/has ever are. Material things and status suddenly took a very reduced role in her life ... and remaing true to her values of giving and caring became her predominant goal.

Not all who have a NDE are changed like that though. Another person I know who claimed to have had one was an Asshole before ... and is still an Asshole.
