BRIEF AND TO THE POINT
User ID: 381742 United States 06/24/2010 10:21 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | i've been asked to take this female basset or she will be put to sleep at 5pm today. without question i'll take her but i have no idea what kind of temperament this dog has. are they good with other dogs? kids? cats? Quoting: Aileanai don't have much time to do a lot of research... anyone own one? My Dad had one that was incredibly smart and very good around kids... Poor people do poor people things, and rich people do rich people things. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is the beginning of the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it! when you rob Paul to give to Peter ... ... ... you will always get Peters support! :Brieffromnativea: |

There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory mentioned, which states that this has already happened. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 416114 United States 06/24/2010 10:33 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | We have a six year old Basset. The poster that called them easily trainable is insane. Our dog has been wonderful with the kids. They are mostly gentle, smart, and the most stubborn dog you will ever own. They take life at their own pace... try to rush them and they will deliberately go slower. |

PS Bassets are natural hunting dogs if you've got someone in family that likes to get out in the woods and bag critters. |

User ID: 755417 United States 06/24/2010 10:54 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Our family has owned four Bassets over the years. Our current boy, Gunnar, is 13 years old, actively fighting cancer thanks to the wonderful vet clinic at Ohio State University. He's still going strong and most days acts like he's two or three. I agree with the other posters about being friendly, family oriented dogs. Gunnar is very protective of his family members but is all bark, no bite. One of his favorite things is to visit the daycare that my daughter attends. He eats up all the attention from the kids. He's been raised with other dogs and a house full of cats. He plays chase with the cats on a regular basis. Sometimes he chases the cats, other times, the cats chase him. Again, he's always been very gentle with the cats and has never once hurt them. He really thinks he's the patriarch of the family. If one of the other dogs is getting into trouble, like getting into the garbage can or chewing something they shouldn't, he barks until we check it out and correct the other dog's behavior! VERY important to keep the ears clean to prevent yeast and bacterial infections. During the summer, we clean his ears two to three times a weeks, a little less during the winter. He went to obedience school when he was a puppy so he knows the basic commands. You need to know that Bassets have a mind of their own and are very smart. I very much believe they were put on this earth to please themselves, not their humans. They have to think it is their idea to do something. They can be very stubborn at times. If you keep this in mind, she should make a wonderful addition to your family. One other plus is their long, velvety ears. They love to have their ears rubbed and it's like therapy to do so! Good luck with her and keep us updated on how she's doing! |
