It does not matter whether or not you assault an officer, they cannot and are not trained to punch people in the face, especially women.

The police have training to deal with stuff like that. They can physically restrain the person with a number of hand to hand moves; they can use their nightstick and hit the person in the legs; they can taser the person (unfortunate but true), and heck, they can even back off and call for backup. But punching a teenage girl in the face? No.

If you are one of the people who think the cop was in the right, you are either a government shill or a fucking retard. I guess there's not much difference, really.
