**THE DEEPWATER HORIZON DISASTER: INSURANCE MARKET IMPACTS REPORT**
Someone in the insurance industry led me to this link. This presentation has been given to all insurance firms so they can get a handle on how this disaster will effect and trend the market. Very interesting read. Sorry to send you to a PowerPoint presentation - but I felt it necessary to give credit to the original source of the document.

The Deepwater Horizon Disaster: Insurance Market Impacts

DR. ROBERT P. HARTWIG, CPCU | JUNE 2, 2010
This PowerPoint report by Robert Hartwig, president of the Insurance Information Institute, reviews the insurance issues relating to the Deepwater Horizon Oil Rig Loss. Slides show the types of coverage that might apply and the number of parties that might be involved. The liability factor and legal ramifications are discussed and slides explain the Oil Pollution Act and the Oil Spill Liability Trust Fund. A section deals with risk management and regulatory fallout, noting that increased federal oversight is a certainty.

Thanks. I'm off to bed. I hope that some people will not be too lazy to look into this. It was very interesting... to me anyway.

BP didn’t take out insurance and covered it themselves so they are responsible for any and all payouts.

This fact will help somewhat with the huge hit the insurance industry is going to take on this. You still have to remember all the businesses along the coast that will be effected by this, however. I found it interesting that "pollution" from flooding was not going to be covered in some instances in some policies. They did mention however that some condo associations policies DID have pollution coverage as part of their policies. It seemed to be worded as to flooding. I wonder if "air pollution" will be covered?

Exxon Valdez gave us credit default swaps. I wonder what insane financial instrument is next.
